2014 Tweeter headshots_editedTwitter has become one of the top go-to resources for travelers looking for travel information, recommendations and inspiration. There are plenty of great travel tweeters to choose from (here’s a massive list) but the 14 below (in no particular order) will not disappoint. Some are old, some are new and they’re all for those who love to travel, are eager to learn travel tips and want to stay informed … and find ridiculously good deals.

Flight Deal1. @TheFlightDeal
@TheFlightDeal emerged as my favorite Twitter handle to follow in 2013 and I have high hopes for them in 2014. They bring their followers incredible deals on airfares every day. They target mileage junkies who are looking for the best fares so they can maximize their miles, but any traveler will find their information valuable.

AFWD-twitter-logo_bigger2. @Airfarewatchdog
I list @Airfarewatchdog virtually every year because they do a fantastic job of alerting consumers of unpublished airfare deals and helpful consumer travel tips.

Heather3. @Heather_Poole
Heather’s a flight attendant for a major U.S. carrier and is also the author of the New York Times bestseller Cruising Attitude. She’s fascinating to follow since she offers insider views of what it’s like to be working at 36,000 feet.

nyca-square-blurb_bigger4. @NYCAviation
Don’t let this Twitter handle fool you because this feed isn’t just limited to New York City. These guys are on top of aviation news, history and flight delays like no one else in the U.S. If there’s ever breaking travel news, they’re usually the ones spreading the word as they continuously monitor air traffic control.

Jim R5. @nycjim
Jim Roberts used to be the assistant managing editor of The New York Times but now he’s the executive editor and chief content officer of @Mashable. Though he doesn’t tweet just about travel, I find his links to news stories fascinating and timely. If you want to be in the know about anything (many times his tweets are travel-related), follow Jim.

Skift6. @Skift
Thanks to co-founder @JasonClampet and their business travel columnist @GrantKMartin, Skift has quickly become one of the leaders in global travel industry intelligence. They tweet news, information, data and analysis on airlines, hotels, tourism, cruises, startups, tech and more.

PointsGuy7. @ThePointsGuy
ThePointsGuy is run by road warrior Brian Kelly who is one of the masters when it comes to accumulating points and miles. He’s always tweeting stories, tips and deals to help you maximize the earning and burning of your hard earned miles and points.

Henry_Harteveldt_bigger8. @Hharteveldt
Henry is an airline, hotel and travel industry analyst at Hudson Crossing. His tweets focus on business and industry strategy, marketing, distribution and eBusiness. I would bet he’s quoted by all the major news organizations more than any other travel expert.

Chris M9. @Cjmcginnis
Chris McGinnis is a travel correspondent and consultant who has appeared on all the major networks discussing travel trends, deals and tips. He’s constantly sharing valuable information especially on Fridays when he and I co-host our weekly #TravelSkills Twitter chat.

Joe B10. @JoeSentMe
Joe Brancatelli’s the only person whom I debated about adding to this list since he’s a Twitter newbie. But in the last few months, he has showed some real promise and his weekly column is a must read for any business traveler.

Scott11. @GlobeTrotScott
Scott Mayerowitz is a New York-based airline reporter at the Associated Press and a frequent traveler. His tweets and stories are always interesting and timely.

FT_bigger12. @FlyerTalk
Most travel junkies are familiar with Flyer Talk’s message boards since they are the world’s most popular frequent flyer community. But not everyone is aware that they also do a fine job tweeting travel news stories. I hope in 2014 they will add mileage run deals to their Twitter feed.

Marilyn13. @Marilyn_Res
Marilyn Terrell is the chief researcher at National Geographic Traveler magazine and spends quite a large amount of time sharing her information on Twitter. She tweets travel news stories from around the world and often retweets NatGeo’s Digital Nomad @WheresAndrew.

JJ14. @JohnnyJet
That’s right – I’m adding myself to this list because I think I do a pretty darned good job sharing relevant travel information on Twitter – but I’ll let you be the judge! I work hard to find great deals like last week’s fare from NYC to Europe for $345 round-trip (including all taxes). I also share breaking travel news and helpful tips to make travel smoother and more enjoyable. I flew 97 times in 2013 and traveled to 17 countries and 15 states – not bad for someone who used to be afraid to fly! Two of my tweets even made national headlines in 2013. One was about American Airlines’ new boarding procedure and the other was my story about flying with a fallen soldier onboard my flight.

So there you have it! Please let me know if you agree or disagree with any of these choices. Feel free to recommend a friend or yourself for a future column. I know there are many more out there and I’m always looking for the best of the best. If you’re looking for more great travel-related Twitter accounts, I have created a directory, which has the Twitter handles of all the airlines, hotels, car rentals and travel writers, etc. that I recommend you follow.

Happy travels and a have wonderful New Year!
