I just returned from attending the 2013 Travel Goods Show in Las Vegas (I will be featuring the cool gadgets in upcoming newsletters). The event took place in the Mandalay Bay Resort, and instead of spending the night in Mandalay’s massive hotel I stayed in a hotel that’s located in their hotel.

That’s right the Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas occupies floors 35 to 39 of the Mandalay Bay Tower and this place is one of Las Vegas’ best kept secrets. Here are my top 10 reasons to stay there.

Four Seasons lobby

1. It’s an oasis. The Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas is an intimate oasis in the midst Las Vegas’ mega resorts. There are only 424 rooms and there are no casinos and no smoking. Walking the hotel’s hallways, including on the lobby level, you will wonder why it’s a ghost town. Seriously, you see very few people. I think it’s empty because there’s no casino so they don’t attract many outsiders.

2. It’s close to all the action. If you want to gamble, party all night or dine at terrific restaurants you can take the elevator to the C level and you will be smack in the middle of Mandalay’s action. Remember to bring your room key and don’t forget where you got out because the Four Seasons entrance from inside of Mandalay Bay is via a non-descript door.

3. Newly renovated guest rooms. The Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas opened in 1999 but they just completed a renovation of the rooms, and they are stylish with an art-deco inspired design scheme. Of course, there are modern touches like an LED television and a beautiful working desk with super comfortable ergonomic chairs. The bathrooms have a separate shower and soaking tub, and they are stocked with ETRO toiletries.

Good to know: The in-room mini bar isn’t one of those evil electric ones that charge you the moment you pick up a drink.

4. The View. Have you ever been to The House of Blues Las Vegas’ Foundation Room? If you have then you know the breath–taking view of the Las Vegas Strip. That’s exactly what you get at the Four Seasons if you have a room on the Strip side. Those across the hall wake up to sweeping views of Nevada’s beautiful desert, and all rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows.

Did you know that the Las Vegas Strip isn’t really in Las Vegas? It actually passes through the towns of Winchester and Paradise.

5. Location. If the plane dropped me off the moment we touched down, I could’ve walked to the hotel – that’s how close it is to the runway. The Four Seasons Hotel is located on the iconic Las Vegas Boulevard and it’s easy to get to without dealing with Vegas’ nightmarish traffic for too long. Unfortunately, the airport’s entrance is on the opposite side so it’s a solid ten-minute drive.

Vegas Taxi Tip: Be sure to tell the taxi driver no freeways or tunnels to get to the hotel, unless you are in a big hurry and don’t mind spending an extra $6. It’s also good to know that Vegas taxis charge an extra $3 fee if you pay by credit card (called a voucher). My ride cost $17 + tip + credit card fee.

6. Free transportation. A lot of guests don’t know that the Four Seasons has a sleek black Mercedes Benz that will take them within a three-mile radius for no charge. That includes the airport! They don’t do pickups for free but will drop you off. Keep in mind they only have one car so it’s first come first serve and it’s not always available. There are no guarantees.

7. Service. The Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas has excellent service just like all Four Seasons around the world — that’s what makes them the Four Seasons. The staff are friendly, they know your name and probably even know your game, that’s how good they are.

8. Food. The hotel has two award-winning fine dining restaurants: Charlie Palmer Steak and Verandah. The latter serves authentic northern Italian cuisine and I had dinner there. The food/service was top notch and it wasn’t crazy expensive either. Caprese salads are $13 and a margherita pizza is just $15. For breakfast I had huevos rancheros (pictured above)

If I wanted more options I could’ve gone over to Mandalay Bay and hit one of their 24 restaurants. One thing is for sure, you won’t go hungry in this building.

Four Seasons Spa

9. Spa. The smell of the Farmhouse Fresh Whoopie candle will draw you in but the magical touch of their masseuses will have you returning, and paying their steep prices. The Four Seasons Spa was awarded five stars by Forbes and I had the pleasure of getting their signature treatment, which is a custom experience. My therapist, Tina, has been with the company for 10 years and she worked me so hard at times I was practically in tears. Afterwards I felt so good I hugged her and told her I wish I made enough money to get one from her every week. 50 – 100 minutes ranges from $170 – $330.

10. You Can Opt-out of the Resort Fee.  One of my biggest pet peeves about Las Vegas hotels is that practically every one charges a resort fee. Most will not let you opt-out but the Four Seasons will. The daily fee is $25 and it really only covers the internet and a newspaper so if you don’t need either then opt-out. FYI: To purchase their internet separately (which is fast by the way) costs $28 so think twice before turning it down.
