I discovered this website walking the showroom floor of the GBTA conference last week in San Diego. Boeing had a booth set up with large 787 models (each one cost upwards of $40,000) and a couple of flat screens showcasing their Dreamliner.
The most fascinating thing: Boeing has created a slick website that lets all of us on the ground see every Dreamliner in flight at a given time displayed live on a Google Earth globe (tracking requires downloading Google Earth). You can track these 787’s by airline using a 360-degree view, from the passengers’ view or in the Google Earth View. They are all cool but I love seeing the 360-degree view.
Most of the flights have a slight delay, from two to 20 minutes—I’m assuming for safety reasons. Either way it’s amazing to see these planes in action.
FYI: There’s also a live ticker at the bottom which has all of the current stats. As of August 7, 2013 there are 13 Airline Customers; 73,787 Airplanes Delivered; 29,385 Flights; 5,877,000 Estimated Passengers Flown; and 38,719,469 Miles Flown.
