The Proud Bird Restaurant LAX -001I went to The Proud Bird Restaurant in Los Angeles next to LAX this weekend for a NYCAviation.com plane spotters event sponsored by Singapore Airlines. The Proud Bird Restaurant is located right next to one of Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) approach runways, affording diners a one-of-a-kind, front-row view of airplanes coming in for a landing. But sadly, they are closing their doors on November 21 because Los Angeles International Airport is tripling their rent.

According to a restaurant worker the airport is blaming the FAA for requiring them to charge “fair market value” but how do you define what’s fair? I have a feeling that this space which has been a tribute to the evolution of modern aviation is going to sit vacant so everyone will lose out. What a shame. Isn’t some rent better than no rent?
