Going Through Customs
You would think this would be common sense, but it’s not. No matter what, never, ever travel through customs with someone else’s bag. If there is anything prohibited in there, you will be held responsible and the consequences can be serious. I was recently watching an episode of Border Security: Australia’s Front Line where someone got suckered by a friendly seatmate who asked him to help carry his bags since he had too many. Don’t fall for it.

yep…can happen to the best of us. Luckily my experience was many years ago when there was less scrutiny. I was on a semester abroad and one of the girls was super rich and I was not. She asked me to wear a bunch of jewelry for her through customs (“oh…I can’t wear it all and I am afraid someone will steal if from my bag”) and they questioned me. I got through ok but I was sweating and was angry that I’d been put in that position. It was my first trip abroad and I didn’t know about customs regulations and expenditures,etc. But she did.
Great tip…that is such an interesting tv show. I find it so hard to believe how much food people try to sneak into Austraila! Why dod you think that is? I’ve heard they have expensive food prices but trying to sneak in 2-day old fried chicken seems a bit drastic.
