TaxiAlways Look Twice
When you travel, always get in the habit of doublechecking the back seat of a taxi, the seatback pocket on the plane and your hotel room for your personal items. I can’t emphasize this enough. So many people leave their phones, wallets and passports behind somewhere and it’s a real pain to track them down—if they can at all. This simple tip can save you a lot of time and aggravation.

Great tip, same goes for the hotel you are in. A friend was recently late for his flight from Paris to New York. He checked out of the hotel and did not discover until he got to the airport that his passport was safely locked in the hotel safe.

Hi Johnny, I save all your Travel Tips but I’m wondering if there is a place on your website where I can find them? I really enjoy getting them; find them very useful and share with my friends and family!

Very wise words! We actually mentioned this same thing in a list of “Dumb Travel Mistakes” we’ve made in the past. We were leaving a hotel in rural France and glanced in the rearview mirror to see one of our suitcases sitting forlornly in the parking lot. We were taking a 3-hour drive and flying home the next day. What a pain that would have been if we forgot it!

Don’t forget the room safe. I recently had to back-track 5 hours to retrieve my cash and credit cards. A good rule of thumb-put one of your shoes in the safe…that way you will not forget.

definitely check the safe, had to go back in Dublin to hotel get the bell hop to come up to room while I opened safe and retrieved our passports. made plane by 7 minutes only because of sympathetic Irish TSA’s agents who my wife had already told them of our situation.

also be sure to check the seatback pocket in front of you when your flight is over and your leaving the plane . left my 2 week old pair of glasses on a plane to Hawaii last year.
