Travel Tip of the Day: Know Your Taxi Fares

Taxi meterKnow Your Taxi Fares
If you aren’t sure how much a taxi will cost, always ask the hotel concierge before heading anywhere in a cab. The concierge should know the approximate cost of a taxi ride from the hotel to any given destination. Then, when you get into the taxi, ask again how much the driver thinks it will cost. If there is a large disparity, tell them that that’s not what the hotel told you and if you can’t find a reasonable compromise, get out and find another taxi.

  1. Made the mistake of not asking the cabdriver at Schiphol Amsterdam Airport how much it would cost to go from the airport to my hotel. When I got to the hotel it was €65 cab fare. The concierge at the hotel said oh my God you got ripped off it should’ve only been €20. I learned my lesson, and I really don’t like Amsterdam.
