How often do you fly? At least once a week on average.

How many countries have you been to? 30

How many continents have you been to? 4

Earliest travel memory: My first road trip with the Philadelphia Wings when I was 14. It was on a bus, and I learned right then and there that being part of a team was critical to success. Our next road trip I had to fly. I flew on Delta to Montreal and then we bussed to Quebec City and flew back via some commuter airline through Boston. I learned that all planes weren’t the same size and what turbulence was like.

Favorite American city: Seattle. It’s got great food, coffee and a hip, changing urban dweller crowd, and it’s still a city of neighborhood.

Favorite international city: Madrid. The food is the best in Spain, it’s easy to get around, and you can get great service by those in the travel industry there.

Least favorite country: I don’t have one.

Country with the meanest immigration officers: Ever since I joined Global Entry I can’t say I’ve come across mean immigration officers. Maybe it’s my style with them, which is always upbeat and polite.

Favorite World Heritage Site: Sintra.

Favorite airline: Virgin America—I even buy the flight attendants Starbucks coffee packs when I fly them at 7 am out of San Diego. You’d be amazed at how they react. For international it’s a tie between Thai Air and Cathay Pacific. The Asian airlines are head and shoulders well beyond what we see in the USA.

Favorite aircraft type: A380.

Aisle or window: Window. No one climbs over you.

Favorite airport lounge: Bangkok Thai Air.

Favorite U.S. airport: Carlsbad, CA.

Favorite international airport: Copenhagen.

Favorite hotel: Intecontinental SF.

Favorite travel credit card: AMEX.

Favorite island: Mallorca.

Favorite beach: Del Mar, CA.

Favorite fancy restaurant: Pamplemousse Grille, Solana Beach, CA.

Favorite hole-in-the-wall: Juveniles Wine Bar, Paris.

Favorite bar: Willi’s Wine Bar, Paris.

Favorite fruit: Papaya.

Favorite food: Sushi.

Least favorite food: Anything with gluten.

Craziest thing you’ve eaten: Alligator ribs.

Drink of choice (in the air and on the ground): Water, wine, Vesper Martini, Puritan.

Favorite travel show(s): L.A. Times Travel Show, NY Times Travel Show.

Favorite travel book(s): “Adventures Along the Wine Route” by Kermit Lynch.

Right now I am reading: A book on venture capital financing, some Tom Clancy novel and a bunch of books that I can read on planes that are in my Kindle app.

5 things you bring on a plane: iPhone, iPad, headset, my tech and gear to get work done, carry-on bag.

What do you always seem to forget? Shaving gear and hairbrush—but since I tend to stay in the same hotels it’s always there waiting.

What do you like least about travel? Lines, delays, missed connections.

What do you want your loved one to buy you from an airport Duty Free store? NOTHING.

Favorite travel app(s): TripIt.

Most embarrassing travel moment: Being told my credit card was declined, when it wasn’t, with a group of 12 reporters. It was only being challenged, but the hotel was in Spain and the hotel staff didn’t speak English. It took an hour to get it resolved.

Worst travel moment: The same.

What’s your dream destination: HOME.

Best travel tip: Always use LuggageForward to ship bags. Carry an unlocked mobile phone so you can save money and avoid roaming charges.
