Travel Tip of the Day: Keep the Ants Away

FruitKeep the Ants Away
If you’re visiting a tropical destination, be sure not to leave any food, sweets and especially fruit lying around the room or in your bag. Otherwise, you’ll find an army of ants within hours. This is of course true anywhere that’s warm—even at home—but on the road, it’s easier to forget!

FYI: Not familiar with some of the fruits in the photo above? Indonesia has many we don’t have in the U.S., and a few of these were served at breakfast on my honeymoon in Bali.

  1. I have been to Bali — one of the few places in my world travels that I would never return to. Had a tour driver who lied to us — said I did not see a “cremation” casket on a truck — and I had researched the whole place. We were told not to go into TOWN because of mad dogs and went on a tour of DOZENS of temples. After ENOUGH I asked what the next temple had: answer: running water. I took a poll of the van occupants (6 of us) and none of us wanted the rest of the tour. But I did have a great massage on the beach (behind a small shrub) by a native masseuse.
