Travel Tip of the Day: Don’t Get Locked in the Bathroom

BallyfinDon’t Get Locked in the Bathroom
A big piece of advice I offer to infrequent travelers is to watch how train, plane, hotel and restaurant bathroom doors open and close. I see tons of people getting stuck in these bathroom all the time, and they always rightly panic. It happened to me once, several years ago, on a train from New York to Connecticut and it could have been avoided if I’d just taken a second to watch how the door opened and closed and how the lock worked.

FYI: The bathroom above, in Ballyfin, wouldn’t be the worst one to get locked in.

On my first flight at the young age of 7, I forgot how to unlock the bathroom door. Just then the pilot announced our descent into FLL. Fortunately, the stewardess helped me and my sleeping grandparents weren’t any the wiser. We still talk about it 36 years later!
