Travel Website of the Week: Gogobot

GogobotDo you like to do a lot of research before you plan your next vacation, business trip or weekend getaway? I know a lot of people who do, but many are reluctant to rely on information from anonymous strangers on popular travel review sites. That’s where Gogobot comes in.

I’m going to Alberta, Canada next week, and instead of looking to see what others have said about the destination or hotels, I quickly created a profile on Gogobot and posed a question: “I’m going to Alberta, Canada next week for the first time. Any recommendations?” The site then offered to post my query to Twitter and/or Facebook. Within seconds, the suggestions (many from friends, but many more from others) started pouring in.

For those who aren’t my friend (and this is part of the beauty of Gogobot), I’m able to see their profiles, past reviews, Gogobot badges they’ve earned, and their travels. To see what I’m talking about, take a look at the suggestions that came in on my custom Gogobot link and on the tweet I sent.

According to Gogobot’s website, they “believe planning your trip should be almost as fun as the trip itself. We believe the best advice comes from people you trust—people like you—and not from anonymous strangers on the internet. We believe sharing your experiences should be as simple as touching the screen on your phone.”

I like their philosophy and their product, and I’m not the only one. The New York Times had this to say about Gogobot: “An efficient way to build an itinerary based on recommendations from friends and other travelers. The site makes it simple to record where you’ve been so that you can easily share your favorite places with friends.”

They’re right, especially about the fact that they make recording and sharing your experiences by filling out one of their “postcards” from their app so easy. It takes a minute and is a fun way to share and help other travelers.

Full disclosure: This is not a sponsored post but they have hired me to be one of their brand ambassadors. All opinions expressed are my own, based on my experiences with their product.
