Cross the Street with a Local
Last Thursday’s tip was about not relying on the person in front of you when crossing the street, especially in cities like New York, where locals are almost always in a hurry and often take chances by jaywalking. However, in cities like Bangkok or Ho Chi Minh City, where traffic is a completely different animal, it’s best to cross the street with a local (stand as close to them as possible) as they know exactly how their systems work. Watch this video on how crazy the traffic is in Ho Chi Minh City to see what I’m talking about.

Totally agree with this. During our visit to Jaipur, India, our guide told us to “go with the flow” as we crossed the busy (no traffic control devices) streets. Had to watch out for the vehicles and cows (who have the right of way). I decided to stay close to our guide. Best decision I made at the time. After that experience, I was able to “go with the flow” on my own.

My first international trip my to Ho Chi Minh City. The traffic was unreal. I’m from a small town in South Georgia and was amazed at the congestion.

We were there and said crossing the street there was an extreme sport!! Our guide had to actually teach us how to get across! Insane.

Hanoi is the same way. I cross the street faster than locals sometimes. But believe me, it’s never fun.
