Short bio: A lifetime of traveling, and a lucky turn from Fortune 500 consumer goods into a 15-year travel goods marketing career. Starting with the inventor of the original rollaboard and then the leader in fashion hard-side. Now, my efforts at 24-7 International are to relaunch two legacy luggage brands. Pathfinder (Revolution Plus and GEAR started shipping last October) with a focus on the professional/executive business traveler, and Andiamo (Avanti and Pantera will start shipping next week after launching during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week) with a focus on the luxury travel market. Our customers are welcoming the brands back into their stores for their brand equity, quality, durability, style, and value.

How often do you fly? 1-2 times a month for business; 6 times a year for leisure travel.

How many countries have you been to? 100 and three more this fall (Just back from Madagascar).

How many continents have you been to? ALL SEVEN!

Favorite American city: It’s a tie…New York and Los Angeles (friends on the east coast, sons on the west coast).

Favorite international city: After 100 countries, it’s tough to choose only one. I do feel comfortable in Hong Kong…and could easily go back many times.

Least favorite country: I can always find ‘something’ to salvage even my bad experiences. No “least” yet.

Favorite World Heritage Site: The Acropolis…haven’t been there in 40 years, but I’m guessing it hasn’t changed much since then.

Favorite airline: Delta, where I try my luck for medallion upgrades.

Favorite aircraft type: I’m a believer that all of our domestic carriers should be flying Boeing…I think there’s a lot to be learned from the comfort of an A380.

Aisle or window: Aisle…forward.

Favorite airport lounge: Anyone that accepts my Diner’s Club card for free admission. Not so much in the US, but they’re all over the world.

Favorite U.S. airport: Not ONE fav, but Orlando does a good job.

Favorite international airport: It’s a toss-up between Changi and Dubai.

Favorite hotel: Four Seasons in Manhattan has THE most comfortable beds.

Do you unpack into the dresser/closet? Or live out of your suitcase? Live out of my suitcase. And, I ONLY travel with a carry-on (Pathfinder, of course) and a tote. I never check luggage.

Favorite cruise line: SeaDream Yacht Club. Caviar and champagne every day! Ahhhh.

Favorite island: Easter Island—their night sky is the most ahh-mazing star-studded I’ve ever seen.

Favorite beach: Marsh Harbor/Abaco…the sand is very fine and pink.

Favorite fancy restaurant: I appreciate quality…too many to list.

Favorite hole-in-the-wall: Shin Ju Japanese…love white tuna, masago, and raw oysters (separate, not together).

Favorite fruit: Mangosteen (not often found, but I tried it once and was hooked).

Favorite food: I’m not a vegetarian, but I do love fruits and vegies.

Least favorite food: Indian cuisine.

Drink of choice (in the air and on the ground): Good vodka/good champagne. If there isn’t a good brand to choose, I’ll settle for club soda.

Favorite travel show(s): Anthony Bourdain, No Reservations.

Favorite travel book(s): I have three shelves full from Lonely Planet.

Right now I am reading: “The Paleo Coach”—a gift from my son, Elliott.

Top 3 favorite travel newsletters/magazines/blogs: Elliott (Christopher), National Geographic Traveler (I’m a photographer and this is true inspiration), T+L.

Favorite travel website(s)—besides JohnnyJet.com, of course! TripAdvisor (I’m a new reviewer), LA Times Travel, and USA Today Travel.

Five things you bring on a plane: Laptop, phone charger, noise-reduction ear buds, camera with spare chip, individually wrapped wintergreen life savers to share with gate agents and flight crew.

What do you always seem to forget? I fool myself thinking that all my shoes are appropriate/comfortable for travel, until I’m walking in them…and they are not.

What do you want your loved one to buy you from an airport Duty Free store? A Lancome make-up kit that’s all-inclusive AND compact to carry.

Favorite travel app(s): Hipmunk, TripAdvisor, FlightAware.

Most embarrassing travel moment: I was on a Continental flight from Houston to Ft. Lauderdale. My now-grown, eldest son was a pre-teen and he threw up on the passenger sitting next to him.

Worst travel moment: Three, actually. All the same…once landing in the Azores to refuel and twice landing at LaGuardia…A lame excuse given by the flight deck to mask their errors of coming in hot…and requiring them to make a touch & go for another pass at a regular landing without running out of runway length.

What’s your dream destination? I’ve been to everyone else’s dream destinations…IF I had the time, and IF money was no object, and IF this all happened before I got too old to enjoy it…I’d love to take a round-the-world cruise.

Favorite travel charity: I support ALS through cousins who ride their bikes (globally) in memory of another cousin who lost his battle to ALS.

Best travel tip: Allow plenty of time…to get to the airport/clear security/make connections. You’ll only aggravate yourself if you’re rushed. And don’t forget to be courteous to the gate agents.
