reader-travel-tip2Bring a Car Charger
Each Friday, we’re featuring a reader-submitted tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s tip comes from Ellie of Otter Creek, Maine, who says:

“I travel a lot for business and need to keep my phone charged at all times. I’ve found it very helpful to travel with a USB car adapter to pop in the cigarette lighter of rental cars. It has come in handy so many times…and allowed me to stay in touch with my clients and family AND use my phone for GPS in unfamiliar territory.”

A great tip if you’ll be using a rental car. Thanks Ellie!

Great tip … just don’t forget it when you turn the car back in. We did once, and the rental company was nice enough to mail it back to us. But we might not be so lucky next time.

A good tip to bring a car charger, but one has to consider that many new cars no longer have cigarette lighters (gone with the ash trays!), but some now have AC outlets for light duty usage; i.e., charging. Now you may need two chargers. In the event that the rental car may not have either, be prepared and try to start with a charged phone.

Adding on to this is get a charger that does 12 volt dc and 120 volt ac. I got mine at the Sprint store (not a reseller store)
