Google TranslateI’ve featured Google Translate in the past but this week it just got a whole lot better. The app has integrated Word Lens, after Google bought the app, and it’s made it even better. Now travelers can translate any text including street signs and menus just by holding up their camera—all without an internet connection. The translation is suddenly overlaid on the phone screen, just like that.

Google Translate is currently available for free for iPhone and Android and translates English to-and-from seven languages: French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Google said it’s working to add more.

H/T to The New York Times’ In Transit blog.

Love the Google translate app. I have used many times to prepare myself to speak with cabbies, front desk agents and ordering food all around the world. Easy to use and way more languages than I need. Have you ever featured flight tracking apps? The best one I have seen is FlightView. You can register flights, build itineraries and get flight status notifications for each leg of your flight. Its also free so you can beat that.
