Combine Your US Airways Dividend Miles Account with Your American AAdvantage Account
If you have both an American Airlines AAdvantage account and a US Airways Dividend Miles account, now is the time to start combining them—as I lay out here. Since American and US Airways are now one entity, they’ll soon be closing down US Airways accounts, supposedly in the second quarter of 2015. All accounts will be eventually merged automatically, but you can help expedite yourself through the system by acting now.

When you’re merging, the most important thing to remember is to make sure your birthday, email address and all other personal information in both accounts match exactly. If they do, like mine did, registering them will only take a second. If they don’t, you could have some difficulty. The great news is that my Dividend Miles should transfer to my AAdvantage account in a few months.

Once you pay the $89 and make a purchase and the 50,000 miles are posted to your account, can you cancel the card prior to when the next year’s $89 fee is due and still keep the miles? I would love to get those miles but have no desire to pay $89 every year for another credit card.

You can but I would see if they would transfer you to a card that doesn’t have an annual fee.
