According to its blog, CheapAir has become the first travel agency to start booking US travel to Cuba since the Obama administration announced the first step in restoring diplomatic regulations with Cuba back in mid-December.

But it’s not simple to travel to Cuba yet.

First of all, traveling to Cuba from the US is still not permitted unless you meet specific criteria.

“Americans who wish to travel to Cuba will have to meet one of 12 different criteria for authorized travel, as they have in the past,” states The Washington Post in a mid-January 2015 blog post. “Those categories include family visits, official business of the US government, foreign governments, and certain intergovernmental organizations; journalistic activity; professional research and professional meetings; educational activities; religious activities; public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions, and exhibitions,” says The Washington Post.

There are also currently no airlines that fly to Cuba from the US direct or with a connection. CheapAir will, however, work to figure out the best connections and purchase tickets separately for clients providing they meet one of the 12 criteria authorized (above) by the US government.

Check out CheapAir’s blog for more information and to see if you can be authorized to visit Cuba.

We agree this somewhat cumbersome process of booking flights to Cuba is better left to travel agencies. If you use this online travel agency to book travel to Cuba, please share your experience below!
