CarBuckle Up
Tragically, award-winning journalist and veteran 60 Minutes correspondent Bob Simon recently lost his life while riding in the backseat of a black Lincoln Town Car in Manhattan. According to New York City police, he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt. It’s not clear whether wearing one would have saved him, but his chances would have improved dramatically. And it’s true at least that the driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, survived.

I see many family members, friends and colleagues choose not wear a seatbelt when they jump into the backseat of a car, and that’s obviously a huge mistake. It’s an even bigger mistake when traveling internationally, as according to State Department data, “road traffic crashes are the leading cause of injury deaths to US citizens while abroad.” Please: Always buckle up.
