YYZNEXUS and Contact Lenses
A little while back, I shared a tip about new NEXUS machines, and why you should now carry your NEXUS card with you through immigration. Well, my wife Natalie suggested I share another NEXUS tip that might save some people the hassle she ran into when she applied.

If you plan on applying for NEXUS, you should remember not to wear contact lenses to your appointment because the administrators make you take them out to scan your eyes. If you must wear them, know that they won’t have contact solution for you to use, so you’ll need to bring your own. The most frustrating part, she says, is that nowhere on the application form did it mention any of this, and so she ended up soaking her contacts in paper cups with tap water during her scan, which was not ideal. Not to mention that it took a while for the immigration officers to actually find a suitable vessel (paper cups) to hold her contacts.

You also need to take your contacts out anytime you use the new NEXUS machines, so be sure to remember that as well. If Natalie had known, she would have been prepared. Now, you can be.

FYI: The image above is of Toronto’s (YYZ) Terminal 1, where I used NEXUS to travel to Chicago to meet with Gogo.

You only need NEXUS if you travel to Canada.
