Look at Partners United DoubleLook at Airline Partner Sites when Booking Flights
When you’re pricing out flights, don’t just go to the site of the airline with which you want to earn miles. Instead, search multiple sites (including our search engine) and their partner sites, as well. You can save some serious money this way.

For example, I was recently looking for flights from New Orleans to Toronto on May 31 and found that United wants $2,320 for a one-way ticket (see screenshot). But if you look at the other screenshot, you’ll see that Air Canada is only charging $1,097, not only for the same route, but for the exact same flight!

Look at Partners AC half priceAir Canada is a United Star Alliance partner so the United flight is operated by Air Canada. If I’d been a loyal and trusting United customer like I used to be, I would have just gone to United.com and possibly paid double for the same flight, without knowing how much I could have saved. Booking with partner airlines can save you serious money, another reason to always do your research when you’re booking flights.

Kevin: I always fly One World partners and get my flights credited to Aadvantage, except if they are super cheap promotional flights. Another consideration, Johnny. I was flying from Bangkok to the Maldives on Malaysian Airlines last year, when I decided to add a side trip to Langkawi. To add that little bump out on my itinerary increased the cost about $800. So, I looked on Malaysian to see what the cost from KL to Langkawi was and it was in the vicinity of $130 if I remember correctly. So, rather than buying one ticket with all my flights, I purchased the Bangkok to Male RT through KL, and then purchased a separate ticket from KL to Langkawi RT and saved a bundle of money. No one at the airlines could explain why the cost was so high on one ticket to Langkawi other than by saying the KL to Langkawi must have been a promotional fare (it wasn’t). But, I did not get AA miles on the KL to Langkawi flight, but did on the Bangkok to Male flight.
