DelayKeep an Eye on Your Delayed Flight
I’ve heard a number of people say that their flight was delayed and then it ended up departing on time without them. Whenever my flight is delayed, I never venture too far from the gate, and if I do, I make sure to monitor the departure board and/or sign up for flight notifications.

Recently, American Airlines emailed me four hours in advance to let me know that my flight from Honolulu to Los Angeles was delayed (see above). In the email, it had a warning that stated: “Please be at your gate as originally scheduled as American Airlines continues to make every effort to return your flight to an on-time schedule.”

I only stayed at my hotel because I knew that Honolulu is not an American Airlines hub and so they wouldn’t have any planes just waiting around. I also called them to find out if the plane was on the ground in HNL or in the air. Since it was in the air, I knew there was no chance of it leaving at the original time. Multiple agents confirmed this, as well.

Bottom line: Monitor flight status and don’t take any chances if you absolutely have to be on the flight.

I usually use the AA and FlightView apps on my phone to track the flight. The apps will tell you where your plane is coming from and you can track that flight as well.
