For example, I just learned that I can take scissors that are less than four inches in my carry-on bag.”

While the TSA allows you to travel with small scissors, other countries don’t. I had a manicure set in my carry on for a few trips. However, when transferring planes in Hong Kong, both the manicure scissors and nail file were confiscated while going through their security.
TSA information may not always be reliable, especially when travelling abroad. My friend recently had her 3″ scissors confiscated in Japan on our return trip. I have also noticed many inconsistencies at TSA checkpoints throughout the US. I play it safe and pack items like that in my checked bag, or leave them at home.
