Cows and mountains

Which Animals Are the Most Dangerous in the US?
After a two-year old boy was taken by an alligator in a horrific accident at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, CNN ran a story identifying which animals are most likely to kill you in the United States. It’s a little scary, but ultimately the number of such accidents is very low, and worth knowing. You might be surprised to learn that alligators and sharks are at the bottom of the list, according to the Wilderness and Environmental Medicine‘s analysis of CDC statistics from 1999-2007.

The CNN article on the topic states: “As human populations increase around alligator populations, the risk of an alligator encounter increases. Take Florida, which is home to more than a million alligators and nearly 20 million people. Between 1948 and 2016, there were 257 attacks with 23 deaths. That includes eight children.” Between 1999-2007, there were 250 deaths by dogs, 509 deaths by hornets/wasps/bees, and 655 deaths by cows, horses and other mammals. See the full story here.

As I’ve written before, never forget to exercise caution and common sense near animals.

FYI: The cows above are seen in Greece, which Katherine Belarmino writes about here.
