Delta

This week two airlines with past popular in-flight safety videos released new versions. Delta’s was popular because they had the beautiful “Deltalina” as the lead and her “no smoking” finger shake was the talk of aviation geek websites. Deltalina makes a cameo in the new one but sadly she’s not the lead.

Air New Zealand

Air New Zealand seems to make one popular in-flight safety video after another. Their past ones have received millions of hits on YouTube include a naked crew, Richard Simmons and a safety sketch featuring Ed O’Neill from Modern Family. This week they released ‘An Unexpected Briefing’ which features Hobbits, dwarves, and wizards as part of a partnership to promote The Hobbit trilogy from Academy Award winning director, Peter Jackson. Not only does Peter Jackson make a surprise cameo, but Weta Workshop (Peter Jackson’s digital effects company behind The Hobbit trilogy, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong and Avatar, among others) lent their master digital animation talents in the form of one very ring-obsessed Hobbit – Gollum. Other special appearances include Fili the Dwarf (Dean O’Gorman), J.R.R. Tolkien’s great-grandsons Mike and Royd, and Larry Curtis and Clifford Broadway, two super-fans from TheOneRing.net, the web’s largest Tolkien fan site.
