DELRAY BEACH TO MIAMI TO L.A.

This morning I flew from Miami to LAX on American Airlines. I took their 8:15am flight (#299) because it’s on a 777 which is a very comfortable two aisle plane. Their other 5 flights MIA-LAX flights are on smaller aircrafts (767, 757 and 737). I got upgraded to business which made the 5 hour and 8 minute flight seem short. The only bummer was the fact the ground crew forgot to load the headsets and the blanket they gave me was filthy (when it’s not wrapped in plastic it’s been used).

Getting to the Miami airport from Delray Beach on a Saturday morning economically was a problem. Unfortunately Tri-Rail ($5) doesn’t operate early enough to make the flight. The drive is a solid 55-minutes and a taxi using the meter would’ve been $130+. Super Shuttle wanted $89 and 24 hours advance notice. My friend Todd recommended his driver Leo (# 561-654-3322) who charge just $95 plus tip and in a comfortable Town Car. He wasn’t available but he arranged for his colleague Roy who runs Boca Transportation for the same price and picked me up in a Suburban right on time at 6am. Roy’s also a cool guy to talk to on an early morning drive and we chatted a lot about the Yankees and the travel industry. BTW: If you book through Roy he charges $115 plus tip so it’s best to call Leo first. And if you want Roy to come in and pick you and your luggage up at baggage claim he charges whatever parking cost – usually about $5 – a great deal.
