 SWEET SIXTEEN

Prettiest of girls

a young miss now

waiting off -stage

to take her bow;

In high heel shoes

full length gown

a little mascara

brown hair brushed down;

Gone are the days

of diapers and cries

gone are the freckles

pigtails, mud pies;

Gone is the little one

with hands on her hips

stubborn defiance rushing

through fixed lips;

Gone are the days

when she saddled high

while I pranced around

grunting neighs, groaning sighs;

"Money for ice cream

hurry! There's the bell,"

A quarter for a ride

on the whirling carousel;

"Get it for me , Daddy

Oh, I want it so,"

"But princess, its expensive!

Will you cash a check, Joe?

"Can't come in , Daddy

I'm taking a shower"

How many times I bathed you

when you were a little flower;

But that was yesterday

Now, eyes open wide

gazing at the world

wond'ring what's inside;

Blow out all the candles

close your eyes, wish a dream,

the world's a little nearer

when you're sweet sixteen,

REQUIEM OF WINTER

Yellow hooded daffodils

green tunics wet with dew

Magnolia candelabras

Hyacinths that Apollo grew !

Crocuses on tiptoes

Tulips stretching for a view

all wave at winter's funeral

through snowflake tears,

Adieu,

TIME WAS

I stood above and cried

in front of me, side

by side, was mom & dad

and, next to them, lay I;

None of us dead yet

and that was why I cried

for all my life I

climbed a ladder to reach

dollars, always climbing

for unknown to me the,

the ladder was endless in the sky.

And, as I ascended

I saw my friends

go hurtling by over the side;

"stop! Wait! I want to talk" I cried,

"Too late, too late" each in turn replied,

And, so my mom and dad will go

as my little ones will surely grow

And, as I climb for the summit of the sky

I must pause and take a dollar bill

to dry my eyes

THE FIRST SYMPHONY

In the beginning HE

was alone

and, after He had made

light and night

mountains and cascading fountains

and, the fascination

wore- until it became a bore

He discovered the earth's beard

which was being seared

charcoal black by the yolk

of the sun,

He decided (none too soon)

it needed cover,

So, He took His first finger and thumb

(now, you know He really didn't have one)

And, said "A la ga fee"

And, He created the tree;

little ones, big ones, fat ones

skinny ones, and all bare ones;

but this wouldn't do,

since the heat licked through

like a flame on its way

to a burning.

So, He created a few trillion limb covers;

And, while He was sitting back,

(figuratively speaking), admiring

His new toys, He suddenly

became very, very warm,

He haaadn't worked like that in 5,000 years

which caused Him to sneeze

creating a breeze

which He noticed wheezed

as the breeze flew through His trees;

He liked the sound down there on the ground

especially

the harmony

of the wind

and the waves

and the trees.

So, He snatched a large branch

from His nouveau riche ranch

and,

He conducted His first symphony

And, He was so engrossed

and, I guess He felt gauche

about this beautiful blunder

that He the accidentally

created thunder;

for He neglected to steer His clouds

that then became entangled in a

wild traffic jam

like the carnival scooters

they went bam, bam, bam!

And, He was so carried away

by mixed emotions

of love and pain

that He cried (figuratively

speaking) and,

He created rain.

PLAYTIME

PLAYTIME

How insecure is a little child,

how marvelously honest and free

as he gropes his way towards the grown-up world

learning to lose his identity;

Oh , let me converse

with a little girl nurse

or a fireman driving his truck

small mamas and papas

vendors, hop-scotchers

some kids have all the luck;

I’d rather play

with a child all day

whose heart's full of love and song,

than argue the reasons

men work for all seasons

or whats morally right or wrong.

, So dear little one, be shy and be gay

the world needs the love you enjoy

for the world that you'll live in

is no place to play in;

have fun

little girl

little boy.

CAROL & TOM

First, she stops a speeding car

then, he catches a falling star

then you smell the flowers in bloom

so happy you're both dancing in your room

Across the continents you've flown

London, Paris, St. Bart's, Rome;

traversing oceans in a yacht

or riding horseback on your lot;

Now, its time to settle down

put away the rhinestone gown

empty bedrooms are a bore!

time to say: Je t'adore.

Here's a message from a dove

to you who wear the look of love,

you've had two years of fun, fun, fun;

now , you need a son, son, son!

or, a daughter, daughter, daughter!

I LOVE TO LOVE YOU

WITH MY HANDS

I love to love you with my hands

let my fingertips glide

over your smooth thighs

kneading deeper and deeper into

the tenderness of you;

let me be the sheet

that covers you

the blanket that

keeps you warm;

then, let my tongue

like the feline with its young

wash all the hard to get at

places including your ....

THE EGG & THE FRYING PAN

"I must admit

it stings a bit"

said the egg

to the frying pan.

A Christmas Greeting

The artificial Christmas tree

with golden balls

stood lonely in the bank building

near bare-assed walls;

outside a red-nosed santa

in a wilted, worn red suit

said 'merry Christmas, rang a bell

and, ate his yellow fruit

barely visible white flakes fell

gently

like soft rain,

fall-out, air pollution or Mary

mop-shaking again?

the little child cries bitterly

her skinny dog lies dead.

run over by a red suit in a rein-

deer driven sled

and, as they disappeared o'er the run-

down, beat up shacks

the little child yelled "f--- off, you bastard and don't come back !"

THE CLOUD AND THE MOUNTAIN

Let us come then

you and me

where the evening is spread

against the sea

like a cloud squashed up/on

a mountain and

love.

THROUGH GOOD TIMES & BAD TIMES

THROUGH GOOD TIMES

AND BAD TIMES

THE YEARS CAREENED BY

LIKE A SPEEDING ROCKET

CLIMBING A LIMITLESS SKY

WE ADDED FOUR JEWELS

TO OUR NEST ON THE LANE

WHO GAVE US MUCH HAPPINESS

AND SOMETIMES A LITTLE PAIN

NOW THEY’VE DEPARTED

TO A LIFE OF THEIR OWN

LIKE WILD WEEDS

THEY LEAVE WEATHERED AND GROWN

AND YOU MY LOVE

NO LONGER NINETEEN

ARE STILL THE MOST BEAUTIFUL

GIRL I HAVE EVER SEEN

AND I LOVE TO LOOK

UPON YOUR PERFECTLY FORMED FACE

WITH A BODY TO MATCH

AND YOUR UNFAILING GRACE

THE WAVES OF MY HEART

THE CREST OF MY LOVE

RISES TO HONOR THE WOMAN I LOVE

BRILLIANT, PERSONABLE

LOVER OF MINE

I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER

TO THE END OF TIME
