- In what they're calling a first for the U.S. airline industry, Alaska Airlines' Mileage Plan is now letting customers use miles to book one-way travel at half the redemption rate of round-trip flights. Not only does this allow redemption at lower levels — starting at 10,000 miles for a coach leg within the United States and Canada — but it also allows travelers to better customize their flights, mixing, for example, a Saver award in one direction and a Peak award in the other. The airline has also created a new, lower award level of 7,500 miles each way for travel inside Alaska. Alaska Air's mileage plan partners with more than a dozen other airlines for awards accrual. Until the end of March, there is also a 20,000-mile sign-up bonus for the Alaska Airlines credit cards co-branded with Bank of America. Source:

- America marks its 400th anniversary with an American Extravaganza Anniversary Weekend festival in Jamestown, Virginia, May 11-13 2007, which will feature spectacular activities and performances.
England's Queen Elizabeth II will also be in Virginia during May to commemorate the sailing of those early New World settlers who founded the first permanent English speaking colony in America, a decade before the Pilgrim Fathers founded Plymouth in Massachusetts.
Four hundred years of American heritage has its roots in English soil and to mark the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown new vacation itineraries offer Americans a chance to take their own journey of discovery. Visitors can retrace those roots across East England from Lincolnshire in the north to Kent in the south covering everything from castles and gardens to stunning cathedrals and historic homes. Finding cheap flights in Europe
Although most U.S. travelers are pretty well up on our own domestic low-fare airlines,
we're often in the dark about the many similar lines that have suddenly emerged in Europe. I often receive questions about,
say, how to find low-fare flights between Barcelona and Zurich. Fortunately, the Internet makes the search easy.
