- NEW BOOK: Travel and temper tantrums may seem to go hand-in-hand (they start with T - no coincidence) so the Temper Tantrum Common Sense Handbook that includes lots of ideas about how to prevent a tantrum while flying is a "must-have" for anyone traveling with a toddler. The key is, says author Judy Colbert, "Be prepared, from following a to-do list to taking photos of everything you pack so you'll be sure to bring it home. Children sense when adults are tense and react accordingly. Make sure," she adds, "that you tell your child (who's old enough to understand) everything that's going to happen in the airport, including removing shoes and placing them with the favorite blanket or cuddly toy though the security screening." Capacity Cuts Could Deepen in 2009
Earlier this year, airlines cut capacity by between 10 and 15 percent to combat record high fuel prices and an uncertain economy. Now, six months later, fuel prices have gone down (for now) but the economy remains shaky, and as Bloomberg reports, airlines are considering another round of cuts in 2009. "The pullback at big carriers including Delta Air Lines Inc. and American Airlines may reach 8 percent and include non-U.S. markets where they've been expanding in the absence of discount rivals."
