WEBSITE OF THE WEEK |
- Sittercity.com
Not that I would ever trust my kids (if I had any) to anyone, but when my sister was planning to visit me I asked my cousin who she uses for a babysitter. She said that her babysitter just went back to college, but her friends have been using Sittercity.com and love it. I thought it's kind of crazy to trust your kids to a website, but then again – why not? The internet is full of great trustworthy resources (ahem, JohnnyJet.com). After looking over Sittercity.com and seeing all the accolades, I thought to myself: Wow! If this works really well for locals, and they have 150,000 caregivers nationwide, why can’t this be a perfect solution for parents traveling with kids? Parents could use an evening break, and this looks like a perfect match. Sittercity.com boasts that over 94% of users rate their service as "excellent.” They've also been named one of Time Magazine's "50 Coolest Websites.” It’s easy to use once you sign up (it costs $9.99 a month, plus a $39.99 registration fee). First you see how many sitters are within 10 miles of you. Then the site displays the names, reviews, qualifications and proximity of the sitters near you. Clicking on a specific sitter takes you to a full profile including reviews, references, a personal statement, photos, contact information, even an online resume. Their babysitter rate calculator factors prices by zip code, number of children, age of sitter, and number of years' experience.
