I’ve been writing about my incredible trip to India and one thing that made it so special was the food. I love Indian food but I’ve never cooked it myself or even thought about attempting to. However, I found a recipe site online from a popular Indian brand called Pataks. They’ve been around since 1957 and they offer all kinds of Indian recipes. If you can’t make it to India this week, you can at least whip up a few tasty dishes!
A friend of mine told me about this site. It’s a compilation of 25 professional dictionaries in 17 languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Hebrew, Chinese (Traditional), Chinese (Simplified), Dutch, Russian, Korean, Swedish, Greek, Arabic and Turkish.) It has translation software that offers results from a database of 1,400 sources in 75 languages. My friend uses it for Indonesian correspondences (he does business over there). Whenever he comes across a word he’s unfamiliar with, he simply holds down the control key, right clicks over the word and presto - instant translation! The neat thing about it is that you can do the same with words like nugatory or neuston and get the Oxford English Dictionary definition, as well as those from other dictionaries. Pretty cool and easy to use. The only downside is that at $89, it’s a bit pricey.
TRAVEL TV SHOW OF THE WEEK
The National Geographic Channel is giving viewers a sneak peak at the world’s safest jet, Air Force One (the President’s plane).
I saw part of the show on Sunday night but they are re-airing it on Wednesday, January 28th at 8pm EST.
Immediately following it is an hour-long special called On Board Marine One (the President’s helicopter).
Some interesting facts about the plane: The Air Force operates two identical planes that are used to carry the President. Neither plane can be called Air Force One until the President steps aboard. The second aircraft, which carries the Vice President, is referred to as Air Force Two. Air Force One’s inaugural flight took place on January 11, 1959 (it was a Boeing 707-320B airliner – today it’s a 747-200B). The last 12 presidents have traveled over a total of seven million miles in the air. Jackie Kennedy selected the color scheme for Air Force One’s signature paint job. And last but not least, when the President is on the plane, Air Force One is accompanied by at least two C-5 Galaxy aircrafts carrying cargo that includes a bulletproof limousine, a top-of-the-line ambulance and occasionally, even the President’s personal helicopter, Marine One.
