Not every country uses 9-1-1 as its emergency contact number, as we do in the United States and Canada. And hopefully, you will never be in an emergency situation while traveling abroad. But just in case, you should always program the country's emergency number into your phone so if you ever need to contact the police, an ambulance, or even the fire department, you will be ready to go. StudentsAbroad.State.Gov put a handy reference list in a PDF file (you have to download it which shouldn't be a problem). Note: English-speaking operators may not be available.
As you can see from my featured story and video this week, I had quite a weekend flying in Virgin America's private charter to Vegas for the premiere of their Fly Girls Show. On the plane ride over there, I got to know Stephen Greenwood, who is one of Gadling.com's newest travel stars; he and his co-hosts (Aaron Murphy-Crews and Drew Mylrea) just began a weekly online travel show called Travel Talk. In each episode, they discuss hot travel news, share fun, useful tips for both traveling and bringing your travel experiences back home, and spotlight exciting travel destinations (ahem, Vegas!). This week's episode hasn't been released yet but I just may have a cameo appearance since they filmed me a couple of times (I'm actually a bit scared to see what I said since I was caught up in the Fly Girls moment). I'm pretty sure Travel Talk will be a success since it's a lot of fun, informative and they have the right look and attitude.
