Are you going to be a staycation traveler this summer? Well, if you are and you still want to get away but not far from
home and without spending a lot of money, check out this unique idea – overnighting at a lighthouse. That’s right! Lighthouse.cc features
all New England lighthouses including those that have accommodations.
The first one I checked out was Green’s Ledge Light, which was right
near the house where I grew up, but unfortunately they don’t allow visitors. However, I did learn all kinds of interesting facts about the place.
Since we’re talking about unique, nearby and inexpensive vacations, here’s another one for you: Pennsylvania Farm Stays. This website has information on 25 farms that invite guests to learn the tricks of the trade and spend the night. Kids love it and the fee for a family of four starts at $60 a night. But be warned: Chores are involved!
Companies are always sending me products to try (which I love). An interesting one is the Inflatable Travel Nook Pillow. It provides a unique firm support for your head and neck. It’s kind of like those inflatable pillows you put around your neck but this one goes around your head. What’s nice is that it’s made of soft-flocked vinyl so it’s easy to wash, it's easy to inflate and it folds flat for packing. Pillow: 16 x 9 x 4"; Pouch: 7 x 6"; 5 oz.
I’m not sure if you’ve seen this video yet but it’s taken the web by storm in a very short time. It’s a song written and performed by Dave Carrol who is in a Canadian band called Sons of Maxwell. Dave and his band were on a United Airlines flight from Halifax to Omaha via Chicago and he witnessed the baggage handlers toss his $3,500 Taylor guitar, which in turn damaged it. When United gave Dave the run-around for almost a year, he promised the last person to finally say “no” to compensation (Ms. Irlweg) that he would write and produce three songs about his experience and make videos for each to be viewed online by anyone in the world. Well, guess what? United snickered and it just came back to bite them in the a**. What I love about the web is it gives us little guys the power to make the big guys (major airlines) accountable. As you might imagine, United now has a public relations nightmare on their hands as the video has already received over 2 million views on YouTube and it was just uploaded on July 6th! That’s just the beginning because Dave promised three songs and this is just song number uno! BTW: Of course, United has now offered him the money but it’s too late (unless they want to donate it to charity). I’m quite sure Dave just hit lotto with this so UAL is now SOL. Here’s the full story and the
video.
