    TRAVEL PRODUCT OF THE WEEK
  • SCOTTEVEST/SeV

  • A few weeks ago, one of our writers wrote a first-person account about getting mugged in Barcelona. The story really hit home with our readers since it addressed a very real fear. The story was full of tips on how the situation could have been avoided. Since then, I’ve been getting all kinds of products to try out and my favorite, by far, is the SCOTTEVEST/SeV. Not only is the clothing line attractive for men and women, but the products are incredibly useful and can conceal your belongings, keeping them hidden from the eyes of potential muggers. On the state-of-the-art website, you can peruse and choose which product you want in just a few clicks and best of all, you can see which colors are available and what each looks like. Most jackets have removable sleeves so they turn into vests and all of them, including the pants, have multiple pockets – and I’m talking multiple … as in, between 13 and 52! That’s right – I had the same fantasy you’re probably having right now! Imagine going through airport security without a bag? With this clothing line, you’ll basically be wearing your carry-on.

What I love about the jackets is that they are not bulky and you would never know that it’s packed with gadgets or valuables. In this two-minute video, see the founder, Scott Jordon, demonstrate what he’s carrying … books, magazines, phones, even a Camelbak … you name it. If that’s not cool enough, you can control your iPod without taking it out and the jackets/vests have the wires built in to conceal everything. It’s genius! With this, it’s possible for women and men to never carry a bag again … or worse, a man-purse.

BTW: Don’t just take my word for it! Check out all the quotes, photos and videos from celebrities who love their SeV jackets, including Matthew McConaughey, Herbie Hancock, Steve Wozniak (co-founder of Apple) and Leo Laporte whose tech show I’ve been on many times. For those of you who already have one, check out SeV’s contest where over $500 in prizes are up for grabs for users who send in their video detailing “What's In Your SCOTTEVEST?"

    WEBSITE OF THE WEEK
  • National Hurricane Center

  • You are probably well aware of the fact that we are now approaching prime time hurricane season in the northern hemisphere. Hurricane season officially began on June 1st and runs until the end of November, but prime time is now through October. As you may have seen in the news this week, a few brewing storms have already made headlines. To get up-to-date information, log on to the National Hurricane Center website for detailed reports and forecasts.

    BONUS WEBSITE OF THE WEEK
  • The Squirrelizer

  • Did you hear about the squirrel that jumped in front of a Minneapolis couple’s photo shoot while they were vacationing in Canada? The couple was using the camera’s timer mode to take a picture of themselves when the little fellow became curious. The hilarious picture really got attention when National Geographic featured the shot. Since then, the story has been featured on the Today Show and CNN. Now, websites are popping up about it and there’s even one where users can add a squirrel to their uploaded photo. It’s crazy, I know, but some of the photos are very funny. The most popular website is the UK-based Squirrelizer. You can check out some of their users’ random pictures by clicking this link and hitting the refresh button on your computer.

    TRAVEL CONTEST OF THE WEEK
  • AA "squirrelized" photo contest

  • In honor of the scene-stealing squirrel, American Airlines has announced an online photo contest where “squirrel photographers” can send their best furry (but not blurry) images of “squirrelized” American Airlines or American Airlines destinations for a chance to win two round-trip domestic coach tickets. American has “squirrelized” a few of its own images to give folks ideas! Running an airline is a serious business, but, hey, they've still got a sense of humor!
