LOS ANGELES TO FORT LAUDERDALE
I then flew to Fort Lauderdale on Delta and again they upgraded me --- for free! I was headed to one of the country’s most prestigious hotels – The Breakers in Palm Beach. It’s about an hour away (42 miles) from the Fort Lauderdale airport and after having dinner with Colin and Julie, I turned down my car service and took the Tri-Rail
to West Palm Beach. It not only cost just $5 but it’s emission-free. FYI: Palm Beach International Airport is just seven miles away but they don’t have nonstop flights from California.
THE BREAKERS PALM BEACH
You know, I have to be the first person in modern-day history to ever stay at the exclusive Breakers and arrive by Tri-Rail. To stay at The Breakers
you need to have some deep pockets or a generous boss. The Breakers is a luxurious, Renaissance-style, oceanfront hotel and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its architecture and engineering significance. You feel like you’re stepping into an Italian villa. The main lobby
will definitely take your breath away; it was inspired by the Great Hall of the Palazzo Carega in Genoa. It has a long history and was originally constructed in 1896 by Henry Morrison Flagler and then rebuilt
after a fire in 1926. I only spent a night there so I can’t get into real detail but I promise to visit it again and write a full story on it – which it deserves.
MY ROOM
I will tell you, the place is huge! It has 560 guestrooms on 140 acres and is perfect for business travelers or families. They have two 18-hole championship golf courses, five swimming pools, 10 tennis courts, a variety of water sports, and an extensive program of family and children's activities. There
is nothing
about the place that is cheap – I was in an oceanfront
Junior Suite and in-season (November to April) it costs $1,180 per night! Ouch! The beachfront has all been newly redeveloped. Beach Bungalows range from $200 to $1,000. These are just day bungalows – there’s no bed and you can’t sleep in it.
However, when you answer the wake up call – it’s a live person who tells you the weather forecast for the day and asks if you would like them to call back so you can get some more sleep. A human snooze button! You gotta love it.
THE BREAKERS FOOD
The Breakers has eight restaurants and I dined at Echo
(561-802-4222), which is located in the heart of Palm Beach and servestasty
Asian cuisine. For breakfast, be sure to sample the buffet in the Circle
dining room which is truly magnificent with its intricate hand-painted ceilings. The Breakers Palm Beach, One South County Road, Palm Beach, Florida; Tel.: (561) 655-6611.
VIDEO
Here’s a 2-minute Johnny Jet Video
of my trip to Casablanca. It's also on YouTube, so it takes only a few seconds to load (though the quality is not as crisp). We also have all the JohnnyJet Videos ever made on their servers.
NEXT WEEK Next week, we hop back on a plane and spend a week in a destination I have never been but have always wanted to visit. I’ll give you a hint -- it’s just a 22-minute flight from Fort Lauderdale!
*If you heard about us somewhere else or have the link to the story please email Johnny Jet media and let us know where!

FABULOUS!! Nora B – New York City
Great write-up on Fes! Unfortunately, we only got to spend one day there when I visited Morocco in 2004 as a stopover. I definitely recommend a guide when you go into the Medina. We hardly got there before we were followed by a wannabe guide for minutes on end hissing in our ears. He did the same thing you mention that kid doing - after repeatedly refusing him, he started cursing us in Arabic as we turned and high-tailed it out of there. It's a shame we didn't get to see it because it sounds like such an exciting place, but when you've been traveling all night across the Mediterranean and all day across the mountains by bus, the last thing you want to do is get harassed by a guide... So we went to the Sahara the next day. Joe S – Anchorage, Alaska
Myself and all of my friends and neighbors LOVE your website and Johnny’s book! Great information! Keep the tips coming! Doris J – Long Beach, CA

You might want to rethink having people fly united to Puerto Rico. Last Sunday was a real problem to even get us there. We were stuck at Dulles for connecting to PR at 7:30 am when it was only raining. Sat on plane for 5 hours, de-iced, came back to gate again cause we were 13th inline for take off. 3 Pilots being transported to SJU were on board. The fact it took so long for take off, pilots scheduled were over there 16 hours. When we spoke to transferring pilots, they would actually be able to fly us but United said no. Needless to, we had to pay for hotel and food for night and more importantly missed our carnival cruise to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary with our friends from Erie, PA (they made it)! United was sooo unhelpful it was unbelievable. Their answer was to fly us to Charlotte next day then right on to St. Thomas. That flight was overbooked already. Next was to fly to PR then to St. Thomas (we would at least have luggage). They were so late the next morning we missed connecting flight to St. Thomas, and that was the only island we could get on because husband didn't have a passport. Carnival said he didn't need one for ship but he was not allowed to fly without one. It took 2 days to get out of PR and United only paid for 1 night. What a nightmare, needless to say we ended up home by Wednesday night. No vacation and about $3,000 in the hole. Pat P - Somers, CT
