Many of us at AAmericans United Flag Across America on the national team are, or have been in the recent past, Airbus 300 pilots based in
New York. It is a small division of a tight base--as you may understand, we are devastated by the loss of Flight 587 and our friends.
Additionally, we have several LGA-based Flight Attendants who have been "on the run" who also worked closely with the crew of AA 587.
Regrettably, this event has slowed down our posting of information on this web site and hindered follow-up work. We ask for your patience.
Please keep the families of LGA-based Captain Edward A. States (pictured above left as he ran the flag in New Jersey) and LGA-based
First Officer Sten P. Molin; Flight Attendants Deborah Fontakis, Barbara Giannasca, Wilmer Gonzalez, Joe Lopes, Michele Mills, Carol Palm
(also known as Carol Hill), and William Valdespino, along with the families of the passengers and residents on the ground in your prayers.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>WHERE'S JOHNNY JET?<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope your travels will be safe and hassle free!  I don't think they will be the latter because this week is the busiest travel week of the year.  Expect long lines and tight security. Arrive early because if you miss your flight, you're bumming!

This past week we got a too early jump on Christmas shopping. We were in Manhattan Beach for their annual Holiday Open House.  Every shop in downtown MB invited the public to tour their festive decorated shops and munch on some goodies!.  It was surprisingly a good time and listening to the Christmas Carolers wasn't that painful.

Speaking of MB, something happened this week that was wEiRd.  I woke up Sunday and in front of my house were all these Middle Eastern Flags. I didn't think anything of it because they are always having Volleyball tournaments and special events. I went to play tennis and when I returned I heard the FBI, CIA, and Police were down on the beach trying to figure out who did it and why.  The flags were put up in the middle of the night and screwed on perfectly. No one heard anything and they cost $100 a piece (their were 24). The best part was they replaced them all with old glory!
For the first time in my adulthood I did not travel this week because we were getting ready for our new house. Amber was a trooper doing  most of the painting, and I...... just watched (Only kidding).
Cheers!

THIS JUST IN: Finally the airlines are going to do something about screening checked bags. Check it out.

TIP OF THE WEEK:   By Chris McGinnis
Uncertain times in the airline industry mean an increased possibility of flight re-routing, cancellations, shutdowns or other changes. So, be certain that the airline on which you hold a reservation, and/or your travel agent, have updated contact information for you. Contact telephone numbers should include: home, office, mobile, as well as your destination hotel or office. (Ask your travel agent to update your contact information the next time you make a reservation. Contact information can also be updated on airline web sites or when making telephone reservations.)

GOOD TO KNOW!
Guide To Holiday Air Travel Part 1 (From Bestfares.com)
Getting Ready To Travel
Consider flying in or out of smaller, nearby airports. In many cases, the fares are lower, crowds are thinner and car rental costs are lower.

Those who want to travel to international destinations but are having second thoughts this year, may want to consider that international flights offer several levels of added security, including matching passengers to baggage.

You can still fly on electronic tickets, but you will need to show your itinerary or printed confirmation to enter the gate area. If you don't have it, stop by the ticket counter and you will be supplied with a boarding pass.

Most airlines require passengers to check in for their domestic flights two hours before scheduled departure, three hours before international flights. If you're flying on a busy holiday travel day, allow exra time for parking or--better yet--use public transport or the kind services of a friend or family member.

Carry-on rules are now the same on all airlines, by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandate. You can take one bag plus one personal item--a briefcase, purse or reasonably-sized laptop case.

Items completely banned from onboard commercial flights include: knives and cutting instruments of any size and kind; scissors; corkscrews; baseball bats, golf clubs, pool cues, ski poles and hockey sticks. Needles and syringes for medical purposes are permitted with the manufacturer's and/or pharmacy label affixed. It's also a good idea to carry a note from your physician (written on his or her prescription pad) attesting to your need for these items.

You can legally carry nail clippers, tweezers, safety razors (including disposable razors) and umbrellas onboard, but you could run into an argument from zealous checkpoint staff. If you can avoid packing these items in your carry-on bag, you could save yourself (and other passengers) time and trouble.

Don't carry gift-wrapped packages. They may make it through security without a problem, but screeners have the right to unwrap them. Again, planning ahead (perhaps by shipping non-fragile items) saves everyone time.

Limit the amount of high metal-content jewelry you wear while traveling. Avoid footwear with metal tips, trim or steel shanks.

Always check your flight before you leave for the airport, using online or e-mail technology (several airlines have free programs you can register for online) or simply by calling the airline. If you are told that there is a significant delay, check a second source. For example, if an electronic timetable shows a delay, call the airline to see if the information is the same. Mistakes can be made and you don't want to miss your flight.
