>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>WHERE'S JOHNNY JET?<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Greetings from L.A.!   It was good to be home to relax and enjoy home cooked meals.  One of the highlights this weekend was attending the Manhattan Beach annual Christmas firework show. It's always on the second Sunday in December and the festivities begin at 5pm (and end around 7pm).  Come early because it's completely packed!  We were lucky this year because it was a glorious day and we had an awesome sunset. They were special this year because the grand finally wasn't the usual Christmas theme: They turned off "Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer, and blasted "America the Beautiful".  They replaced the green and red rockets and filled the sky with red, white, and blue ones. It was a great tribute to our country and our military.
Our other highlight was having house guests. The boys from LMNT can by and spent a couple nights with us, we had a great time just hanging out, and playing football on the beach.
TRAVEL RELATED: A friend of mine turned me on to ebay the other day. I discovered it's a great place to purchase upgrades, especially for (unfortunately, after doing searches for Delta, and  only one item popped up).  I'm sure a few of you are thinking it's against the law to do that.  Well, actually it's not against the law, but it is airline policy to buy and sell airline tickets/upgrades.
How are people able to get away with it? The way they word. For example you might find this description:  YOU ARE BIDDING ON A WHITE SECURITY ENVELOPE, WINNING BIDDER ALSO RECEIVES THE FOLLOWING AS A BONUS: (1) UNITED AIRLINES CONFIRMED SYSTEMWIDE UPGRADE.  You like that, huh?  The average price is about $200 which is a steal if you think about it.  A business class ticket Internationally cost between $3,000-$8,000.  Domestically between $800-$2,500.  You can buy a discounted ticket for well under $1,000 and get an upgrade from a seller on ebay and you will be sipping champagne for cheap.... It's a bargain, and remember it's against airline policy so don't tell them you bought or bartered them, and don't tell them I told you so, because I didn't.  I'm just bringing it to your attention :-).
Merry Christmas! Now you know where you can get my Christmas gift :-).

============================
The best view of vegas is definitely not from any of the hotels. Next time you are there rent a car for the afternoon and head out to Red Rocks National Recreation Area, It's probably 20 minutes from downtown. Straight west. Go prepared to hike even just a little, you won't be disappointed. Peace Butz
=============================
I just flew BWI to IAD on northwest through Detroit going and Continental through Cleveland returning. There was no food served on nay of the 4 flights (except tiny bags of pretzels). On the positive side I had no delays no security hassles. I found the airports except BWI relatively empty and so were the planes.
In Denver a girls knitting and NEEDLES were taken. WHAT WAS SHE THINKING? THEY WOULDN'T NOTICE THEM??
=====================
We flew in last night Sun. 12/16 from Fort Meyers to ORD on Spirit.  I want to take a moment to thank the flight attendants for their thoroughly
entertaining way of going over the usual safety and landing spiel.  some of the jokes they used I have read on your website, they were very
entertaining, they sang the safety song to the tune of the Brady Bunch. When the plane landed they asked that we remain seated until the captain brought the plane to a screeching halt at the gate and also just a reminder that never in Spirit's history has a passenger beat a plane to the gate. When the plane's engines were cut at the gate, she came back on line and very quickly just said "All Rise".

At the beginning of the flight, some of the funnier lines were things like "We'd like to remind you that this is a nonsmoking flight, anyone caught
smoking will be asked to leave the plane immediately."  Through the safety talk she mentioned, "And should this Spirit flight turn into a Spirit Cruise your life jackets are under your chairs."  With regards to the oxygen mask, she said "The mask will drop down from above you, when you have stopped screaming, please place the mask over your nose and mouth.  And for those of you traveling with children or others who are acting like children, just a reminder to put your mask on first."

In this time of anxiety over air travel, my fellow passengers and I were rather amused that they had taken the time to try to ease the way with bit of humor.. My hat off to you, at Spirit Airlines, you have gained a frequent flier...

Been Spirited

PS I mentioned to the flight attendants , on the way out, that I had read some of their material on your website. They said they hadn't heard of it and I encouraged them to log on.  Hope they did. And just another aside, I was very hesitant to fly Spirit, I had heard some awful stories in the past.  I guess they got the message. That's all a consumer wants these days is to be heard and to be taken seriously. Happy Holidays

AAdvantage ELITE SECRET
Get Gold After Only 8000 Miles Struggling to make elite this year? Don't sweat it. American Airlines has a little known fast track to Gold called the "Challenge". This word-of-mouth frequent-flier program lets AAdvantage members bet the airline that they can fly 8000 miles (or 16 segments) to qualify for Gold - or 16,000 miles (or 32 segments) for Platinum - three months, to attain elite status. American doesn't publicize the Challenge; members who hear about the program must call to request it.

Guide To Holiday Air Travel Part 5
Delays And Cancellations
If your flight is cancelled or substantially delayed and your booked airline does not have a seat for you on a flight that departs within a reasonable length of time, ask the gate agent to endorse your ticket to another airline. If a mechanical delay is announced, ask for a time estimate. Often, you won't get a clear time frame, but asking won't hurt. If the projected wait is more than four hours, ask for an endorsed ticket. In both cases, the airline has no legal mandate to accommodate you, but chances are, they will.

For shorter delays, ask for a meal voucher and a pre-paid phone call. You may also be able to get a free upgrade on the next flight out.

If your flight is delayed or cancelled because it is routed through an airport with bad weather, ask for reaccommodation on a nonstop flight or one routed through another city. If the bad weather is in your destination city, find out how far the bad weather extends. You may be able to get rerouted to a relatively nearby effort and make the last leg of your trip by car.
