TRAVELER'S AID: BOOKS TO GO Impatience can often erupt in anger, but for John DiScala, it led to a creative alternative. Having a job that entailed a lot of traveling, he quickly tired of flying snafus and began reading travel magazines and books and surfing Web sites. What he learned led him to create JohnnyJet.com. "You Are Here Traveling With JohnnyJet.com" (Yahbooks, $14.95 paper) by Eric Leebow with John E. DiScala is an almanac-size book designed as a companion to DiScala's Web site. It contains 3,000 Web sites, travel bargains, tips and 34 chapters dealing with all aspects of travel. Aspects of air travel --- from "Steals and Deals on Fares" to airports, pilots and crews --- make up several chapters, but boats, cars, trains and hiking are included as well. "Lodging" ranges from dude ranches, bed-and-breakfasts and deserted islands to lighthouse inns. There's a slew of things to do and to see: Web sites for crop circles, factory tours, cathedrals and castles, haunted houses, Oktoberfests. Need more? There's something for sports fans, students, senior travelers, religious pilgrims and volunteers.
True to its subtitle, this "Ultimate Internet Travel Guide" has it all.
