Heeere's Johnny...Jet
By Dan Woog (dwoog@optonline.net)
Sure, there are tons of great travel sites on the internet. But there's only one Johnny Jet.
A labor of love, constructed and maintained by a guy who flies more miles per year than most NASA shuttle crew members, www.Johnnyjet.com is the first place to go for any travel-related question imaginable. Links to booking sites for air reservations, ground transportation, hotels and B-and- Bs; toll-free airline numbers; route maps; airport parking and codes; live traffic control; restaurant guides; flight attendant info; jet lag; visas; currency converters; time zones; ATM matchines; Christian, Jewish, Muslim, black, disabled, female and gay travel; wakeup services; Sunday newspaper travel sections; weather and surf reports -- if it is in any remote way connected to travel, you'll find it on Johnny's site.
Now Johnny Jet has written a book. Called You Are Here Traveling With JohnnyJet.com: The Ultimate Internet Travel Guide, it's an up-to-the-minute compendium of (you guessed it) travel info available on the net. Just browsing through the table of contents is a traveler's delight, whether you're heading to Disney World, Dubai or just downtown. Among the dozens of chapters and sections: Gym Locator, Aviation History, Steals and Deals on Fares, Set Me Up in That Hotel, Bored in Your Hotel Room?, Portlets for Cities, Buying and Selling Miles, Shaving Supplies, Crop Circles, Linen Care, Photography, Travel Newsletters, Life is a Beach -- well, you get the idea.
I recommend Johnny Jet -- the web site and the book -- heartily, and without reservation. One caveat: Once you bookmark the site or pick up the book, you'll be so intrigued you may not have time to actually do the traveling you're learning about.
