On April 1 our MedjetAssist Plus program just became a little bit more comprehensive. No foolin.~
The very popular adjunct to our regular MedjetAssist membership underwent a bit of spring cleaning and a facelift to give more benefits to the program under the watchful eye of Director of Product Development Cathy Rollins.
"We've taken the great features of the existing Plus program and enhanced them in addition to creating new benefits for our members," Ms. Rollins said. "We think the MedjetAssist members will like what they see!"
Leading the way on the new MedjetAssist Plus is our partnership with MedFlash, which can be best described as a revolutionary service in the next generation of medical alert bracelets. Now with MedFlash, our Plus members will have secure maintenance of medical and personal record information both online and through a handy flash drive that will play on any PC with a USB port. And, you can attach it right to your key chain. It allows pertinent personal information immediately available in any emergency situation.
Of course the very popular free international cell phone rental feature will remain in our partnership with CellHire.
All Plus members will have their daily rental charge waived and be supplied with one cell phone number that works in 150 countries. You just pay shipping and airtime charges.
And for those that need a satellite phone rental for cruise ships and other areas not serviced by cellular providers, we have also negotiated discounted low rates through CellHire.
Through our partnership with Air Security International in
Houston, Plus members will have immediate online access to important public health, safety and political information both before and during your trip to stay on-guard for the latest security and welfare briefs.
And of course the popular Cash Advance feature of our program will remain. Plus members will have access to up to $50,000 to take care of unforeseen medical expenses with approved repayment guarantee while away from home.
We are also working daily to increase the Plus Member Rewards & Discount area of the program. And coming in May we have negotiated a very special 'personal shopper' arrangement with Neiman Marcus that we think our members will really like.
How much? A very reasonable $119 annually for all this and more as we continue to add features. Our existing Plus program was very well received in the past and we think our members will love the new look of MedjetAssist Plus.
Till next month- safe travels.

Website & Travel Tips
Will's Website Tip
Johnny Jet
On a recent trip to Los Angeles I had the pleasure of meeting a very cool guy that just so happens has a very cool website and blog, Johnny Jet. So what makes Johnny Jet a good blogger? Well, a while back while Johnny was traveling a 26-state recruiting territory he learned traveling in style on a tight budget was actually not impossible. In fact, with a little research, it was actually not so hard. So he started a weekly newsletter to share his tips. That newsletter turned into a website that USAToday made their website pick of the week. Now Johnny's travel writing projects are his full time job, which brings me to his blog. What I like about Johnny Jet's Travel Blog is that it has everything from websites tips like WorldTaxiMeter.com to breaking travel news like Aloha Airlines filing for Chapter 11. The really good news here is that there is a high likelihood that Johnny Jet could be contributing some of his vast travel knowledge to the Medjet eNewsletter and the Medjet Blog in the very near future.

Rudy Maxa’s World: Las Vegas Top Eight Hot List
Best Non-Gambling Activity in Vegas: Take a hike in the Red Rock Canyon, about a 25-minute drive off the Strip, straight west out Charleston Blvd. (Rte. 159). Pack water and sun protection. Directions & info: 702-363-1923.
Best Bistro: Bouchon in The Venetian. If you can’t get a reservation at The French Laundry in the Napa Valley, try Thomas Keller’s version of a bistro in Vegas. It’s all good. Reservations: 702-414-6200.
Second-Best Non-Gambling Activity in Vegas: Can there be any better way to spend 90 minutes than seeing the bejeweled capes and pianos once owned by the one, the only Liberace? You won’t feel badly checking out his outrageous cars and the world’s largest rhinestone (at 50 pounds) if you remember your entrance fee benefits the late showman’s charitable foundation. 1775 E. Tropicana Ave., 702-798-5595.
Best celebrity-chef French restaurants: Restaurant Guy Savoy (877-346-4642) at Caesar’s Palace and Joël Robuchon (702-891-7925) and his adjacent, informal eatery, L’Atelier (702-891-7358), both at the MGM Grand. The tab at Guy Savoy and Joël Robuchon can head north of $400 per person—and worth every penny of that—but L’ Atelier is fun and terrific at about a quarter of that per diner.
Best Haircut: From Sal Jeppi at Caesar’s Palace. Figure on $100+ for an unforgettable clip, shave, and lots of hot towel treatments while Frank croons on the stereo. Book early at 702-731-7210.
Wildest Pool Scenes: Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for the 20-something hard bodies visiting from Los Angeles—get there early on Sunday for the biggest party. For a more sedate setting, it’s the adult-only Moorea Beach Club at the Mandalay Bay with opium beds, cocktails, and butler service. Topless sunbathing permitted.
Best Quickie, Drive-In Wedding Spot: Little Chapel of the West, (4617 Las Vegas Blvd., 702-739-7971). Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford, Mickey Rooney, Dudley Moore, Betty Grable and Harry James . . . all got hitched here. For about $200, you can have the works, including a garter. Open 8 a.m. ‘til midnight. Renewal of vows a house specialty.
Best Impressionist: Danny Gans at the Mirage. When he’s not thanking God for his talents, Gans is a doppelganger for dozens of celebs, dead and alive. Tickets, $100 + tax; 702-792-7777. |
Traveling Healthy & Safe With John Gobbels, MedjetAssist VP/COO
Safe Travel
This month we’ll switch gears and look at some tips for travelers as it relates to Travel Safety. While most of this will seem like common sense, taking a few preventative steps will ensure a great vacation or business trip.
Make sure you carry with you at all time a list of emergency contact numbers for home, your physician information and any significant past medical history that could be important if you have a medical emergency and can't relay this information. Office supply stores can laminate the document for you or just cover it with clear tape to extend the life of the document.
Take a hard-copy of your passport and drivers license with you on your journey. Make sure you keep these documents separate from the originals. It’s also a good idea to leave copies of these documents with a friend or family member back home in the event that you misplace both sets.
If you use credit cards, make sure you bring two different cards such as an American Express and your Visa Card as some countries or locations may not accept certain types. Don’t carry the cards together and ask the card issuer for the process to lock the card in the event of loss or theft. Make sure that number is in your list of emergency numbers you made before your trip.
As 'Cash is King', make sure you don’t carry all your greenbacks in one place. Instead, store small amounts in separate areas in your luggage or on your person. Those of you who carry your wallet and documents around your neck should be very cautious. While it’s convenient, it’s an easy grab point for someone to disembark with your cash, cards, and documents.
Make sure your MedjetAssist Membership is up to date before you leave and also pack away your basic medical kit for those small emergencies.
Taking a few simple steps before you travel can save your vacation and a lot of stress.
Stay Safe and Travel Smart,
John
Carry-On
Power Trip
I have touched on this subject recently but would like to revisit it because the more I think about it the more practical and brilliant it seems to be. What I am talking about is a member tip from some time back that suggested taking along a power strip in your carry-on bag. That way when you're sitting at the airport and you cannot find an available outlet you can at least have the opportunity to politely ask the traveler connected to the one and only plug in the terminal if you could plug in your power strip and share the precious power. You may even find yourself the most popular person at the gate as others notice your clever and abundant source of electricity.

Just wanted to let you know how much my wife and I appreciate all you and your company have done for us at this difficult time. Medjet made a huge difference in our being able to cope with the many issues related to my wife's accident. Medjet fills an important niche in the market and is truly putting the customer first. I wish you the best. - Rod
Member Tip
As a Polio survivor, now experiencing the late effects of this disease, it's imperative that certain treatments and drugs are not given to me without knowledge of neuromuscular conditions (e.g. giving oxygen unless we're at 90% or less) - we may merely need high pressure shots of air to overcome breathing problems caused by damaged muscles from Polio, etc. and other conditions. Therefore, I keep all my medical records, and copies of emails from specialists (doctors, and other para professionals), my Power of Attorney, and Medical Power of Attorney (NOT a DNR!!), all prescriptions, copies of health and life insurance, health history, etc., on a thumb drive -- ScanDisk for example. It holds as much as many computer hard drives, and can be slipped around my neck if needed. One caveat to remember, most US hospitals and doctors offices are at a loss as to how to plug these in, or don't have a USB Port on their computers, however, coffee shops, hotels, etc. have them for easy transmission via E-mail. - Carol
Carol, this is not only a good tip but a timely one. One of the enhancements of our new Plus program has to do with our Online Medical Storage benefit. The enhancement is a thumb drive device called MedFlash that works in conjunction with the online storage so you can have all of your medical records with you. Thank you for the tip, Will
Transport Story
On March 4th, I had an accident on a "Zip Line" near Liberia, Costa Rica. My right knee was severely damaged. I was evacuated back to my hotel via a local clinic who did a sonogram (had no x-rays) on my knee. They thought they saw a torn meniscus but were not sure. They gave me some pain medication, crutches, an "Ace" bandage and returned me to the hotel.
In the evening on March 5th, I noticed my knee continuing to swell and that my right foot was not aligned with my leg. I asked my wife, to contact Medjet and see if they could give us some advice. The representative who helped us discussed my injury. Although I was not hospitalized, at the time, he determined that I needed to get home.
I was originally scheduled to return home on March 9th with my wife following on March 19 (after attending a Spanish language school in Costa Rica). Within 30 minutes we received a call back saying we were both booked on the early morning, March 6th, Continental flight from Liberia to Houston and then on to San Diego. In addition, my ticket had been upgraded to first class, and since my wife's ticket was on Continental points, Medjet purchased a first class ticket for her.
Enroute I was helped at each airport with a wheelchair and guide which had been arranged by Medjet.
On returning home, it was determined that I had a compound fracture of the lower portion of my femur. Part of the bone had broken off and that piece was also in three pieces. In addition, I had a lateral crack in the main femur bone and a small crack in my lower leg (not requiring surgery).
After a 4-1/2 hour surgery on March 11th (a plate, 14 screws, and 4 days in the hospital), I am now on the road to a full recovery. Although it will be 3 months before I can walk on my right leg, your assistance helped this injury from becoming much worse.
We have already started singing praises for Medjet to all that we can tell. Please thank all that helped us in such a fast and professional manner. A job well done! - Lyndol
