Q. A college friend of mine and I (both now retired) want to go to Europe next October. My friend has not been to Europe, and he wants to see such major capitals as London, Paris, Rome, Madrid and maybe Berlin. We plan on a 12- to 16-day trip. Is there a tour company or travel firm that will put together such a trip (hotel and train reservations, guided tours of the major sights) with maybe two to three days in each capital?
A. October is a great time to go. Many tour operators, such as Trafalgar Tours, offer multicity tours of Europe, but since you have specific cities you'd like to visit, I recommend that you plan an independent itinerary, either with a travel agent or on your own, since no guided tour will encompass all the cities you list (and most will include places you don't want to see). The cities you want to see are spread throughout Europe, so you might want to fly between some of them. Try Europe by Air at (888) 387-2479. A Eurail Pass (on the Web at www.raileurope.com) also might be a good idea for travel. A great place to find guided tours and events in various cities is Viator at www.viator.com. Another great site for finding links to other travel-related sites is online at www.johnnyjet.com. For hotels, you can get great deals from Priceline (www.priceline.com).

Q. I'm changing planes at the Amsterdam airport. Where can I find a map of the terminals on the Internet?
A. A good source to find maps for virtually any major airport is www.thetrip.com. Once on the site, click on "travel resources" at the bottom and then scroll down for "airport maps." From there you'll see a pull-down menu.

Q. I am planning a trip to Bayreuth, Germany, in June. How can I find out information about hotel accommodations and rental cars?
A. Check out the Bayreuth Web site at www.bayreuth.de and click on "tourismus" (don't panic if you're not a linguist: The welcome page is in German, but there's a "tourist-info" link to English on the tourismus page). Here you'll find a link to the hotel-booking service and to a ticket-booking service for the Richard Wagner Festival and other music and cultural events. You also can contact the German National Tourist Office at (212) 661-7200 or visit on the Web at www.visits-to-germany.com for more information.

Q. May I revisit your response to the reader who complained about not having the sheets in his motel room changed daily? I think it would be a service to your readers to mention that this isn't being "cheap." If all travelers were willing to sleep on sheets more than once and reuse towels just like they do at home, then we could save a huge amount of electricity and water, and reduce pollution.
A. I received many comments similar to yours in response to my answer. I support conservation efforts by hotels, although obviously they have an ulterior motive (namely, saving money). Ecology-conscious travelers (and that should include everyone) can ask that housekeeping not change sheets and towels daily when they check in to a hotel. Many hotels have programs to achieve this goal.
