TV star adds to party's glow

With Meadow Soprano holding court, a record crowd is expected for the July 23 full moon party at the papermoon restaurant.

She's actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler of the critically acclaimed HBO series "The Sopranos," and word is she's dating Hollywood manager A.J. DiScala, cousin of WSEE-TV adopt-a-pet coordinator Carol Calicchio.

Full moon parties feature guest bartenders, and all tips go to a worthy cause. In this case, it's the Humane Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania. Calicchio serves on the board.

The event is from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Sigler will jump in to do her part at around 7:30 p.m.

Calicchio said Sigler loves animals, especially dogs, and is looking to adopt a puppy while she's here. Calicchio hopes to bring Sigler, with a lucky homeless pet in hand, before the cameras on the WSEE adopt-a-pet program.

Look for the segment on Wednesdays at 5:35 p.m.

Incidentally, photographs of Sigler and DiScala as guests at premiere parties have appeared in recent issues of the New York Post and Time magazine. They'll arrive in Erie together from New York.

Full moon party hosts Tom and Carol Calicchio and Tom and Cheryl Vicary have enlisted the aid of 40 co-hosts for this undertaking.

Before setting out for the papermoon, 1325 State St., the two host couples and an anonymous pet-lover are throwing a champagne and hors d'oeuvres pre-party at the Erie Club.

The private reception for special guests and supporters provides a great opportunity for photographs and autographs.

Included, of course, are the guest bartenders that night: "Pittsburgh Kid" Paul Spadafora, International Boxing Federation World Lightweight Champion; Humane Society treasurer George Dusckas; Erie Zoo spokesman Scott Mitchell ; and WSEE-TV personalities Lisa Zompa, Don Shriver, Carol Pella and David Belmondo.

Calicchio also has called for assistance from her brothers, trial lawyer Frank DiScala Jr. of Norwalk, Conn., and John DiScala of Los Angeles, who has a travel Web site called "Johnny Jet."

Live music by Marty O'Connor and friends completes the picture.

Navy Lt. j.g. Timothy Joyce plans to get married in Wheeling, W.Va., Thanksgiving weekend — that is, baring any unforeseen military maneuvers. The Erie native is an officer aboard the U.S.S. Jacksonville, a submarine based in Norfolk, Va.

He's three hours from Durham, N.C., where his fiancée, Michelle Viglietta, is a Duke University doctoral student in chemistry. The couple met as freshmen at the University of Notre Dame and graduated together in 1999.

Their wedding date is Nov. 30 at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Wheeling.

Joyce is the son of Superior Court Judge Michael Joyce and Cindi Joyce, both of Erie. His brother, Robert, a senior at Notre Dame, will be his best man.

The future bride's parents, Joseph and Eileen Viglietta, and three siblings are Wheeling residents.

When Isabella DiNicola blew out five candles July 7 at Hamilton Park, her parents, local lawyers Ron and Monica DiNicola, brought in the Erie Flairs, a show team of 10 from the Erie Gymnastic Center, to do their thing. About 20 young guests thrilled to their dance/acrobatic performance.

The party featured a luau theme. Isabella's younger sister, Sophia, 3, had the time of her life.

Notice to party-goers: Put on your platform shoes and bell-bottom pants and boogie down to Disco Explosion at the Clarion Hotel — Friday night's best bet.

The second annual Erie Art Museum benefit, chaired by board president Michelee Curtze, begins at 7 p.m. and features a groovy evening of fancy footwork, food and fabulous art.

A silent auction of artwork and great gift baskets, hors d'oeuvres and complimentary beer, plus a cash bar, round out the evening offerings.

Tickets, $30 per person, are available by calling 459-5477. Proceeds benefit educational programs at Erie Art Museum.

Gift auction coordinator Donna Nicholashas nothing but praise for committee members Jody Farrell, Neala Ferralli, Patty Holstein, Danny Jones, Carolyn Kuhl, Connie Boone Manus, Brian Migdal, Paul Perowicz and Debbie Wright.

This is Curtze's last hurrah as fund-raising chairwoman. She's taking a "sabbatical" for the next year to lend her talents as co-chairwoman with Karen Rugare for a countywide project, Erie's Promise. She's also helping plan the wedding of her son Jaimen Gallo and Amy Hermann at the Curtze family's country home, "Edin Acres," in Edinboro.

Dick and Dolores Tome celebrated 52 years of wedded bliss Disney-style. They and their three sons, daughters-in-law and five grandchildren stayed at Disney World's Caribbean Beach Resort. Seven family members from New York City joined them for a week of Magic Kingdom jubilation.

The Tomes were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on June 17, 1950.
