EVERYTHING ELSE
I work for an international hospitality company and manage a team of
consultants mostly West of the Mississippi. While I don't have the lifetime
million miler status yet, I certainly feel as though the travel business has
made me feel as though I have hit it several times over. From my earliest
years, I have always been fascinated with air travel, enjoying the smell of
jet fuel at an airport and just wondering in bewilderment at the technology
behind getting those magnificent planes in the sky. When I couldn't afford
to travel as a child, I collected airline timetables, postcards, and just
imagined what it would be like to travel the world over.
Now I get to do almost that and just enjoy every aspect of travel - from
cool hotels, to great restaurant, to hanging out at the airports and plane
watching. How many people can say that they have been fortunate enough to
meet friends in London for brunch, or in Johannesburg for coffee just
because schedules match? And think nothing of it?! I've learned to cope
with travel trauma, received sincere service most days and meet interesting
people in the most unlikely places. Most of all it's broadened my
understanding and tolerance - and hopefully when people meet me, it's the
same.
I've learned how to balance culture (call it food) and exercise in my
travels and really look at the businesses from a practical point of view.
More often, it's on my dime rather than on my company's, so I look at what
good value is without compromising safety, personal health or indignity.
Hopefully I get to share those hidden secrets and the fun of air travel with
you and that you too enjoy the "tales". Whether it's tales of a city, or
the tails of planes.
