Johnny Jet Profile for Kevin Wilkerson, a.k.a, "The Bartender"
So which came first for me, the pen or the pub?
Safely, I can say it was the pen. This dates back to grade school when I was
one of the few in class that actually like writing papers. I still remember
my seventh-grade teacher accusing me of stealing a story from an out-of-town
newspaper, only to have my dad write a very forceful note proclaiming my
innocence.
The pub was not too far behind this moment. Guess that part of life comes
naturally for those of us named Kevin, a cherry Irish label.
Combining the two was something initially created for one of the earliest web
sites. It was an on-line newspaper that was a few years ahead of its time
(not to mention a few thousand dollars short of revenue). My task was to
cruise the bars for the Southern California beach community we covered and
provide a first-hand look at the scene.
Being single (never married), this was like asking Anna Kournikova to be
sexy. It just came natural to me. After all, I visit bars more often than
Shaq misses free throws. The Kennedys have nothing on The Bartender, except I
have nothing suspicious to hide in my past and I must charm people with my
personality instead of my political power (and wallet).
Naturally, not even Los Angeles’ vibrant beach towns could possibly possess
enough social activity to keep me continually satisfied, so I developed a
travel bug. When a new web site – www.PubClub.com, “Where The World Goes to
Party”– came along, I was able to expand my love for libations into a
worldwide search for fun.
JohnnyJet was kind enough to invite The Bartender to be a guest columnist on
his site. This is a great opportunity, and I am happy to join other writers
as we write about our zest for traveling.
So far, I’ve been to Greece (four times), London, Amsterdam, Germany, Mexico
and all over North America. Eventually, I want to go everywhere. Maybe I
should buy one of those around-the-world tickets and report from all parts of
the globe. (Sponsor me, and I’ll do it.)
Cheers!
