Before becoming Lonely Planet's Global Travel Editor, Don George was Travel Editor at the San Francisco Examiner & Chronicle for nine years and then founded and edited Salon.com's award-winning travel site, Wanderlust. In two and a half decades of wandering, he has visited more than 60 countries; he has also worked as a teacher in Athens, a translator in Paris and a TV talk show host in Tokyo.
He has edited three anthologies of travel writing: Lonely Planet's new "A House Somewhere: Tales of Life Abroad," "Salon.com's Wanderlust: Real-Life Tales of Adventure and Romance" and "Travelers' Tales: Japan." He has also published more than 600 articles in magazines and newspapers around the globe. He is frequently interviewed on radio and TV as a travel expert. Don is also the co-founder and chairman of the annual Book Passage Travel Writers Conference as well as Visiting Lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, Graduate School of Journalism. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and two children.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU FLY? I take about ten-twelve trips a year, roughly half domestic and half international.

Back of the bus.
FAVORITE AIRLINE?
Singapore.
FAVORITE AIRPORT? Any place where the terminal has a thatched roof.
FAVORITE AIRCRAFT? Propeller.
FAVORITE HOTEL?
The Ritz in Paris and a $5-a-night beach hut I found on Koh Samui, Thailand.
FAVORITE City?
Paris. Kyoto
FAVORITE AIRPORT TO PASS TIME IN?
Narita -- great food and souvenirs.
AISLE OR WINDOW?
Window. On a recent flight from Amman, Jordan, to New York, we flew over the Alps and it was absolutely breathtaking, spinetingling -- an airborne epiphany!
