Camo 720x360I’ve never been a fan of camouflage clothing but I had no idea it was illegal to wear in many countries until reader Karol sent me this Cruise Critic thread. It reads: “A number of Caribbean countries, such as Barbados, Jamaica, St. Vincent, Grenada, Dominica, and St. Lucia, ban the wearing of camouflage by non-members of their military. So unless you want to be fined, or jailed – leave those camo shirts, shorts, wallets, and purses at home.”

It turns out the Caribbean is not the only place it’s illegal (it’s also illegal in many African countries, for example). Here’s a longer breakdown, and here’s a first-hand account from an Antigua visitor on TripAdvisor. Without going too much further into it, I’m guessing there are other countries and places (The Telegraph notes Saudi Arabia, as well) with rules/laws against it, so do your research.

I saw a young man turned back at immigration in Jamaica for wearing camo shorts. The said he had to change or go home.

Antigua is NOT an African country. It is also a Caribbean country.
