netflix-the-crownHow did we ever live without Netflix? As a long-time subscriber to the video-streaming platform, I am a huge fan. On-demand viewing has changed everything about the way I watch TV. No more rushing home to catch a show, no more cancelling plans with friends because you’re not {cough, cough} feeling well (when really, you can’t miss that highly-anticipated season finale)! Netflix opened up a whole new way of consuming content and it’s on the viewer’s terms and schedule, not the network’s. LOVE IT!

Problem was, you’d get hooked on a show and not be able to watch it unless you had Wi-Fi. Countless times I wanted to continue watching a show while on the treadmill at the gym but couldn’t because there was no Internet connection. Or, what better way to pass a long flight than by binge watching your new fave series? No can do without Wi-Fi. (And even if the plane had Wi-Fi, you’re not allowed to stream video content and the bandwidth isn’t strong enough anyway.) So Netflix had its drawbacks. Until now, when that major flaw was fixed!

Now, you can download your favorite Netflix programs to your laptop or tablet and save them to view later when you are offline. Simply update your app if you haven’t already, then look for the download button (see above photo). This feature isn’t available for every show but it’s included in all Netflix plans and is available for phones and tablets on both iOS and Android.

So if you’ve got a long flight or train ride or layover coming up, you’ll have no problem passing the time! Enjoy…I know I will!

Not well known but Amazon does the same, which is why I suspect Netflix took so long to come around.

Yes! Definitely using this for my 14 hour flight to Thailand coming up!

Hell yeah. Avianca, get ready for Netflix binges of Sense 8 when I go to Colombia!

I downloaded some movies and comedy-shows before my travel to Gabon, Africa. When I tried to watch them there, I got the “not available in your country”-message on half of my downloads and they wouldn’t play. Not too much of a fan of that new download-option…

bummer! So it doesn’t work even with downloads, even when you’re offline? Ugh!

Only works on devices that are Android and iOS, not for example on Windows laptops or tablets. I called Netflix helpline and they are working on it, but would not give a release date.
