Keukenhof Gardens

Visit Keukenhof Gardens in the Netherlands
I just returned from sailing on a Vantage Travel river cruise from Basel, Switzerland to Amsterdam. Foolishly, I didn’t plan well because if I did, I wouldn’t have flown home the day before the Netherlands’ Keukenhof Gardens open for the season. Fortunately, I’ve been to Keukenhof once before (it was amazing), but I really wanted my wife to see it.

If you appreciate flowers, color or beauty of any kind, make a point to visit the 79-acre Dutch gardens at some point. They open today (March 24) and close on May 16. The gardens are located about 20 miles southwest of Amsterdam in Lisse and feature more than seven million bulbs, including 800 varieties of tulips. Tickets cost about $18 for adults and $9 for children ages four to 11.

Thanks for sharing (and for linking to my Keukenhof Story from last year!) This is absolutely a stunning work of natural art and one not to be missed! What we found out last year was that you can actually book excursions through Keukenhof that leave and return directly to the airport. It’s super easy and no worries about getting transportation out to Keukenhof. Just a little bit more with the cost of a ticket, but the worries are a lot less! Another great tip – visit late in the afternoon if you can. Nobody is there and the lighting is awesome :)

We were there in April 2014 – spectacular!! I had always wanted to see Keukenhof and we were fortunate to have a dry day, partly cloudy, partly sunny. That spring had been early and warm, so many of the fields had already been cut, disappointing a lot of people who were planning to bike or tour through the area. But Keukenhof plants in what they call the “lasagna” method, or layering approach, so that there are always fabulous blooms throughout the time the park is open.
Johnny, you owe Natalie big time for this miss!

For stunning pictures of the tulips, I made a video with just SOME of the photos we took during our AmaWaterways River Cruise. Natalie, I really hope you see it next year! https://youtu.be/Zh8l7JwNOSM
