reader-travel-tip2Photograph Your Rental Car Agreement
Each Friday, we’re featuring a reader-submitted tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s tip comes from reader Laura O., who says:

“I also wanted to mention a travel tip. I was rear-ended while driving a rental car, and the car was totaled and had to be towed. Unfortunately the rental car agreement was in the glove compartment when it was towed. Our rental car company was slow getting a copy of the agreement to us and the insurance company. Without the rental car agreement, you’re not able to file a claim. Now when I rent a car, I take a photo of the agreement and email it to myself. I also do the same with other important documents, like passports, in case they get lost or stolen.”

It’s always a smart idea to take a photo of important documents or information (like your prescriptions and your luggage).

Thanks, Laura! For more rental car tips:

I photograph my parking stub from the off-airport parking facility that I use, in case I misplace or lose it while traveling. They have valets, so you need to call them prior to boarding their shuttle and your car will be ready and waiting. But you can’t do that without your ticket which also has the phone number to call on it.

Also take a picture of the car (all four sides), that way no arguments when you return it and the rental company blames you for any dings or scratches.
