When to Buy Summer Airfare
Summer’s in the air, and for many people (including myself), summer trip planning has already begun. If you’re wondering when to buy flights for your big summer (or Labor Day) trip, this helpful Hipmunk guide is worth looking over. By mapping historical data and booking patterns and comparing available prices to last year’s, Hipmunk draws a number of conclusions about summer travel (and Memorial Day travel, but it’s starting to get a little late for that) and when to buy. Like:

  • For Fourth of July travel, it’s best to book six weeks in advance (21% cheaper than the week of)
  • For Labor Day travel, it’s best to book seven weeks in advance (60% less than the week of)
  • Compared to last year, overall domestic airfare for June-August is down from a median price of $330 to $286
