How Does the Amex Platinum PayPal Credit Work?

American Express Platinum consumer cardholders (sorry The Business Platinum Card® from American Express cardholders) can redeem a $30 PayPal credit each month from January 1, 2021, to June 30, 2021 (terms apply). The total credit is worth up to $180.

Eligibility for this offer is limited. Enrollment in the Amex Offers section of your account before redeeming.

American Express automatically issues a statement credit up to the first $30 in PayPal purchases. You can make one purchase of at least $30 using PayPal or multiple purchases to reach the $30 threshold. If you spend less than $30 for the month, Amex issues a partial credit.

However, to be sure that your purchase gets credited for the month, we recommend making your purchase prior to the last day of the month. Otherwise, making a late-night purchase on the last day of the month might get credited for the following month instead.

Does This Offer Require Activation?

Eligibility for this offer is limited. Current cardholders can enroll in the Amex Offers section of your account before redeeming (enrollment is required).

You can read the offer terms and conditions here.

Do PayPal Purchases Earn Membership Rewards?

The qualifying PayPal purchases earn Membership Rewards and qualify for the statement credit. If you maximize the $180 credit, you will earn at least 180 Membership Rewards.

Again, this PayPal promotion is only for the consumer version of the Platinum Card from American Express.

Purchases with the Amex Business Platinum only earn Membership Rewards and don’t qualify for this $30 monthly credit.

New Amex Platinum cardholders can earn 75,000 bonus Membership Rewards points ($750 value) after spending $5,000 in the first 6 months of their card membership. However, you may qualify for a higher targeted welcome bonus when you try using CardMatch™ (that bonus can be worth up to 125,000 bonus Membership Rewards points after spending $5,000 in the first 3 months of account opening). Terms apply.

Also, during your first 6 months of card membership, the first $15,000 in combined purchases at U.S. gas stations and U.S. supermarkets earn 10x Membership Rewards (then 1 point per $1 spent).

Our in-depth Platinum Card from American Express review can show you how you might fully benefit from this card and how you can offset the $550 annual fee (See Rates & Fees).
